Discussion: GOP County Clerk Pulls Newspapers Off Rack Over Story About Udall

Discussion for article #229134

Stupid woman. All that means is that local news will cover widely, further ginning up support for Udall. Who is going to win.

Thus continues the GOP’s/Teatrolls’ assault on journalism in order to cow it into obeisance to their agenda. If it’s not threatening them, it’s nurturing a symbiotic relationship whereby the MSM is vomit-fed the wormy red meat nontroversy it needs to fill the 24/7/365 “news” cycle with sensationalized false equivalence, and the GOP/Teatrolls thereby reap the benefit of kid-glove coverage in which the “L-word” is taboo and shit like “Thomas Jefferson wanted this to be a nation of Christian laws” is treated as a legitimate argument worthy of serious consideration and debate. Yum nom nom nom chirp chirp.

Alright, yes, she has a good point, but sometimes, just sometimes, the best thing to do is to not whine, demand, or throw a tantrum, but respectfully ask that the news stand be moved if at all possible.

newspapers are not campaign material. I also believe there is something in the 1st Amendment about freedom and the press.

someone needs a refresher course.

She may, and I repeat may, have a point on the Udall cover, but on what basis would she remove a cover featuring Michelle Obama?

I smell desperation…

“Winkle said. ‘I hope that the Larimer County Clerk’s office continues to respect the freedom of the press.’”

What respect? Not sure who’s farther out to lunch, the County Clerk or the editor.

Is that a permanent prohibition, or what? The election isn’t for two more weeks, and I thought “electioneering” only applied on election day.

With Udall, she does have a point, but not with Michelle Obama or anyone other than a candidate currently running for office in that locale.

Early voting.

I hope neither that nor any other paper chickens out and complies with an order of such dubious legality. This is a question a court should decide.

If Gardner was above the fold (he’s usually focused below the belt, tho) would she have done the same thing? #Sillyquestion

Measure it and set up giant newstands at 101 yards. Fuck these people.

How does a county clerk get to make this demand?

She’s a Republican.

Well, there is that. But seriously. She is not a member of the university community in any way. How does she get to make this demand?

That would be wonderful. I hope it’s 100% justified and ends up being validated.

They’re professional victims, and they love to scream “that’s not fair!” at the drop of a hat. I honestly don’t get it either but that’s all I’ve got.
