So why don’t you finish cleaning up the mess?
The answer is kinda like -
“We found multiple instances of highly toxic micro organisms in the kitchen - but since the banquet ended early we kinda just decided to leave it alone … why spend time on a clean-up… does it really matter right now?”
The GOP must be dragged kicking and screaming to ever do anything to one of its own; because, to the GOP all things are fair in love, war, and politics. They have zero interest in ethics or self-governance because political power is the prize. To quote Vince Lombardi: “Political power isn’t everything, it’s the only thing”. (Sorry, Vince).
So there’s a tiny chance the ethics commission might still take him to the woodshed? That would be nice.
We also have to see how someone got from “would almost certainly be convicted” to a decision not to press charges. (yeah, right, I know).
I think the impeachment committee should just make its findings and evidence public and have done with it.
If the GOP ethics committee actually is working on this guy, he must have done something really really bad that left traces - like child porn bad, because they’ve been pretty quiescent until now.
Barnes wrote that he now believes A New Missouri “was a criminal enterprise from its inception – designed to illegally skirt donation limits and conceal the identities of major donors…"
Hmmmm … must sound frighteningly familiar to the GOP these days.
The committee can’t prosecute because it’s a legislative committee, it has no prosecutorial power or ability to push a case forward. They could impeach him, except he left office already, so the only thing they have left is to give the information to prosecutors; at that point it likely dies because of the deal, plug general efforts by Republicans to brush this under the rug.
However, this story should be viewed as a good thing…there was absolutely no reason for the committee to say anything about this, they could have dropped it, but instead they put out a scathing report. It’s obvious the guys in charge is livid at seeing this kind of corruption, and that should give us hope…there are still conservatives out there, even in these Trumpian times, who care about the rule of law, and they should be encouraged instead of being thrown in will all the other assholes. Positive reinforcement is the only way we’ll get any of them back from the abyss…too many are going to be lost forever, and a drag on our nation until they die.
The GOP-led Missouri House committee tasked with investigating allegations against Greitens found evidence that he engaged in “multiple acts constituting crimes, misconduct, and acts of moral turpitude,” according to a scathing Monday letter from committee chairman.
So, when do the indictments come down? Asking for America…
This guy switched to the GOP just in time - almost like a de facto pardon.
I hope the Missouri GOP doesn’t try to coverup the crimes of its leader. He should be investigated and be brought to trial if the facts lead that way.
I appreciate your optimism and I think I will try to do as you suggest. I have never agreed with Republicans or their policies, but I can see the value of having an honest, honorable opposition. The tRumpubikkkan Party is neither honest nor honorable. Let’s hope that there are enough sane Republicans left to pick up the pieces when the MAGAistas have finally been kicked to the curb - in any case, they have their work cut out for them.
Never forget that the man who promoted this cretin into the public eye is currently Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff.
You’re misunderstanding the Republican approach: An asylum seeker isn’t entitled to due process of any kind, but a GOP member accused of serious wrongdoings doesn’t even have to respond to the accusations.
We do need constructive conservative voices in the national discourse…liberals can come up with crazy ideas that make no sense just as well as conservatives do. Balancing the discussion has always lead to a better America, even with the flaws that remain. I completely agree that the Trump Republicans (who are really the end result of decades of hateful evangelicals and greedy oligarchs taking over the party) are not honest brokers, but there are still conservatives out there that are worth talking to, many of whom are afraid of the backlash if they leave the fold. We need to get them to realize going along with Trump is worse than the backlash if they leave, and not subjecting them to a liberal attack when they take a step out is only going to help that.
If we truly end up with 30-40% of America being Trumpsters, we’re screwed as a nation…we have to figure out how to shut them down and get that number back to the few % it has historically been, if only for our own survival. Otherwise, we really are facing a civil war again, and that’s not going to be a good thing.
But please, whatever you do, do not disturb him at dinner in a public place. We don’t want to give Maggie Haberman the vapors.
Nope. I’m perfectly fine with the total dismantling of the Robotplicans as a political party.
Patting them on the head and giving them a participation trophy only feeds the beast.
They need to be shut down by taking away their fantasy that they are the Alpha. Neuter them without hesitation is the way to go here.
They are afraid of the orange peacock. We are not,
He totally has a face that begs slapping!
Such corruption.
Hiding a politically-troublesome donor is not freedom, and not something the majority support. Hey, Republicans, since you’re cutting regulations, how about chopping off the stack used to hide donors?
Witch Hunt? IOKIYAR…
So where is MO Attorney General Josh Harley on this ? If anyone can bring charges he can. Unfortunately he is running for the Senate seat held by Claire McCaskill. I guess the fear of upsetting the base “trumps” doing your duty and being a Profile in Courage. These young GOP hopefuls couldn’t even make Patrol Leader in the Boy Scouts. What a bunch of poser sad sacks they are.
I kinda think Claire will serve another term.
