Discussion: GM Announces 400 Jobs, New Electric Car Days After Venomous Trump Tweets

Future Trump tweet sans-caps-typos.

Good luck driving your stupid electric car when the wind isn’t blowing!

More to do with China…and the fact that Trump was told of the GM plans before the tweets themselves.

Trump is destroying norms which will be difficult to set right again.

Speaking of electric vehicles, anyone else seen the electric Rivian pickup? Tesla will have some competition as the price looks favorable. Truck looks pretty awesome too:

“Trump was told of the GM plans before the tweets themselves”

Just what I was thinking . Do you have a link to any evidence for this? It certainly is convenient timing for Trump and it would be nice if the GM person added that to his statement: “It has been in the works for weeks and Trump has known about it for weeks.”

Serious competition. I read just last night that Porsche’s most popular car the Macan will be totally electric by the 2021 model year and is said to be 80% re-chargable in 15 minutes. This switch over to electric vehicles might be quicker than conventional wisdom thought if enough charging stations are available across the country. If I lived in big sky country with little traffic I know I’d be in for an electric motorcycle.

GM has said it planned to build more vehicles off the underpinnings of the Bolt…

The Bolt, as in…

400 possible jobs to make up for the thousands they have announced ending and soon more they are getting ready to dismiss.

Actually saw the new small SUVish version called the Bolt last night at a HS parking lot going to a musical.

Lordsburg OH’s plant was targeted for a long time. However, if I understand correctly, unionized workers have some degree of job protection. They may still be annoyed if they have to move to Michigan, but they do get to keep their jobs. I’m also sure that the UAW and GM quietly agreed not to challenge layoffs of people who quit the union to avoid paying dues; these are all Trump supporters.

And electric vehicles are anathema to Trump deplorables.

The Rivian will have a range of 400 miles, off road capable and able to tow 11,000 pounds.
Not bad.

Damn that’s a sweet vehicle. Not sure how I could swing the price tag though.

I’ve been driving the Bolt for over two years. The car has exceeded expectations and I’d recommend it to anyone. First American car for me in years.

Speaking of EV’s, the Chevy Bolt gets overlooked by the favorable, dominating Tesla supporting media. Drive both, you will settle on the Bolt. Huge following but GM needs to get production in line with demand. There was a backlog but those are getting absorbed. Just saying.

You posted while I was writing. See my post. Same experience as you. Even my husband, who drives a Suburban, takes my car when he can.

Good news, bad news scenario for Spankee.

Good news: jobs
Bad news: e-cars

Welcome to the future — hint: it’s renewable and non-fossil.

Deal with it.

It doesn’t do a damn thing for Lordstown OH. All GM is doing is reaffirming what they said they were going to do.

I do not know why TPM thinks or implies GM made this decision because of a Trump Tweet or whatever.

Billion dollar companies don’t operate that way.
