It would appear Trump’s legal strategy is nothing more than a PR strategy. He seems to think sullying Mueller and the investigation publicly will somehow get him off the hook or intimidate Mueller. Not going to happen.
Also, I know there’s an open question about whether a President can be indicted while in office, with the majority (I think) saying no. But after listening to Rosenstein yesterday, I wonder if he’d be ok with Mueller indicting Trump, with the SCOTUS eventually having to rule. And, oh boy, wouldn’t that just cause him to explode.
That’s what I’m looking for. I believe a President can be indicted but it is a case of first impression. That’s why Mueller wants to build as strong a case as possible to establish that principle.
It feels like we’re getting to the stage of the chess game where the bully who is losing badly wants to scream about being cheated, scare everybody, and sweep the board off of the table with as much drama as possible.
Except, the legal system isn’t Trump’s personal chess game and Mueller isn’t playing games, either. Having Rudy around making incoherent noises won’t help Trump a bit.
Giuliani added that Cobb’s stepping down is part of a larger shift to a more adversarial legal strategy
Indicating, that, as I have thought from the beginning, Team Trump was never about mounting a strong legal defense, but rather an aggressive public relations political campaign, complete with character assassination, witness intimidation, crowd manipulation and negative advertisement.
This was always about being offensive. It’s the Trump and GOP way.
“Some people have talked about a possible 12-hour interview,” Giuliani said reportedly said. “That’s not going to happen, I’ll tell you that. It’d be, max, two to three hours around a narrow set of questions.”
Anyone who has had experience with an ADHD person with the mind of a 2-year-old (like Trump), can appreciate this stance.
Yep. If it’s true he can’t be indicted, then Trump could waltz out to Pennsylvania Avenue, shoot a baby dead in its stroller, and he couldn’t be arrested for it.
Now, even though 30% of Americans would blame the baby for getting in the way of the president’s bullets (see Cheney), I doubt that the two DOJ opinions against indictment of a sitting president would stand for long.
But, but, but! That idiot Dershowitz was on one of the talking head shows yesterday as I was driving home and he was stating categorically that Mueller couldn’t bring Trump in front of a Grand Jury because "Perjury Trap!" His theory was that Mueller already knows what Trump would say to incriminate himself, so he can’t ask the question, which would result in Trump lying and thus incriminating himself.
Yeah, IANAL and all, but that does sound like a “crock of shit”, as we say in French, but he’s obviously been sent out to make this case so folks won’t be surprised when Donnie plays the card.
(A FINAL WORD: A friend arrived in town last night from Quebec for a couple of weeks stay. I need to go on the record as saying I’m getting pretty f**king tired of apologizing for this place? Seriously, it’s time to wrap this up and move on…)
