If there is an open convention (there hasn’t been one since 1960), I put the odds of the Talibunny being the nominee at 6/5.

Umm… what direction would that be?

Every single one of the candidates has deranged ideas on every aspect of policy: economic, foreign, you name it. Trump’s principal offense is saying plainly what Republicans are used to saying only in private, and are careful to dog-whistle in public.

The strategy document produced after the 2012 loss is a dead-letter. Rubio had a passing fling with it a few years ago, but that is ancient history.

Any convention-brokered candidate is going to be chosen from the same lot of dyed-in-the-wool craziness.

We are at least a couple more election cycles from any effort to move the party in a different direction, if then.

Any responsible, realistic statesmen was purged long ago. The best they have in that vein is the likes of John McCain – but been there, done that, and the only reason he is still around (instead of being run out of the party as a RINO) is his very long tenure in politics.

I’m not even Republican…and, yet, would have a major problem with him just waltzing in there without having done any of the hard work of campaigning…and stealing the nomination.
