Discussion: Georgia Republican Vows To End Sunday Balloting In Dekalb County

See, you free the slaves and right away, only 150 years later, they’re voting and everything. Where will it stop?

Wow…just wow. You would think he and Rep Jacobs come from blazing red districts. They dont. They represent close in suburban districts. I live in Dekalb Co. but they are not my representatives, but they are very involved in some local cityhood issues here. Fran Miller did himself no favors with this statement. It almost sounds like there was some sort of “back room” deal that somehow Lee May didnt come through with (May is the CEO of Dekalb Co. that was chosen by Gov Deal due to the indictment of the former CEO who is now on trial). If Rep Jacobs comes anywhere near this…his ass is grass next time around

Huh, Michael Brown also seemed to be suffering from excessive blackness, which can be fatal, particularly in all-white police districts.

Perhaps The esteemed senator from Georgia would like to donate funds to the CDC in Atlanta to find a cure?

This man is a disgrace to Georgia. Isn’t there early voting in pre dominantly white areas also? I suppose only AA areas should be shut down from voting because you know black people voting. This man would have black people as slaves again.

Look, they have no new ideas except to make it harder for their opponents supporters to vote. They’ve already lost as this is all they have, and the Republican party as it is can no longer exist.

And that makes me incredibly hopeful and happy.

One hopes every time a raised rhetorical fist against the right for all citizens to vote is brought to light, that the righteous indignation of all Americans is inflamed. This despicable politician’s actions to stop voting should be halted, if not by the state than by the DOJ. The Supremes are responsible for the resurgence of anti-voting rights demagogues like this creature, who openly reveal their prejudice and hatred with no fear of reprisal. It’s about damn time white Americans of good faith stand up against such political leaders as this.

well, all Millar needs to do is point out that Lincoln was a Republican and Southern Democrats opposed the Civil Rights Act and African American voters will start clamoring to vote Republican, right?

Smart move, Millar. This won’t at all result in pastors at those churches going out of their way to make sure their congregations vote. Nope, this won’t help inspire a stronger Souls to the Polls push in GA.

I’m really hoping black voters will come out in full force this November. We have the power to move several Senate and governors races into the D column if we’d just go vote.

“My remarks were taken out of context” coming in 3 … 2 … 1. Sorry Fran, your remarks create their own context and you’re in it up to your pearly whites.

I do love it when their own words confirm their illegal, undemocratic intentions. While I sometimes focus on the negative impact of instantaneous media on our lives, let 'er rip!

It really shows something when he says the trying to allow everybody to vote is “a democratic strategy”. It proves that when every American gets to vote, the GOP loses. That is why they’re so scared.

I say this doesn’t go far enough, we need to take it a step further. Have all major elections on a weekend, or more than one day. Make it a national holiday so the working class doesn’t have to struggle to find time to vote.

The reason we vote on Tuesdays was because, in days before cars, it took people more time to travel by horse and buggy. Therefor, a Tuesday vote allowed a day to get to the county seat, a day to vote, and a day to get back, without interfering with the three days of worship. So that left Tuesday and Wednesday, but Wednesday was market day. So, Tuesday it was. In 1875 Congress extended the Tuesday date for national House elections and in 1914 for federal Senate elections.

It is no longer the 19th century. It is time to change these laws so that they suit today’s society.

Not very bright is he? He just informed Eric Holder and the DOJ what he plans to do.

Shorter Millar: What I meant to say was why can’t we just confine voting to work days when the only people who find it easy to get to the polls are rich retired white folks. It’s always worked that way and it’s completely fair to keep it that way, isn’t it?

Ultimate irony? This is being allowed because of the Supreme court decision that ended the need for Georgia elections to be pre-cleared.

Hoist on their own petard.

Actually, after doing some research, this polling place is the only one offering Sunday voting…so, to me, instead of bitching about the early voting, why not bitch about not having MORE Sunday voting precincts open.

More people voting, not on my watch.

Hey c’mon. You know its not right voting on Sundays. In Georgia, Sundays are traditionally reserved for bombing Negro churches.
