They should have designated them “floating holidays”; let state employees choose when to take them. Just changing the official name still leaves them as 2 days to celebrate slavery.

I think it’s time the USA recognized April the 9th as Southern Treason Surrender Day and a Federal holiday.

Ghee, after reading the article, the meaning of confederate memorial day and robert e lee birthday just thrown in there to purposely denounce a segment of the state’s taxpayers? This s&it is appalling!

Robert E. Lee’s birthday?

Does anyone else on the planet celebrate the birthday of a guy who surrendered on behalf of the losers at the conclusion of a war?

And why does no one in the South find this odd?

Why not just call them what they are:

Traitor Day 1

and

Traitor Day 2

So it’s like a religious holiday.

To paraphrase Patton, the duty of a soldier isn’t to die for your country, it’s to make your enemy die for his.

Shortly after I moved to Mississippi I had a woman point out to me that they had off on Monday. And her basic point was “Well, they call it Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but we all know it’s really Robert E Lee day.”

I was wondering what would they feel if we call 9/11 as Osama Bin Laden day.

You might as well designate Hitler’s birthday on April 20th.

Many Scots celebrate the birthday of “Bonnie Prince Charlie” Stuart. So, yes, someone does. I’m sure there are more examples, but that one came to mind almost immediately.

Then again, Scots don’t at the same time pretend they’re bigger British patriots than anyone else in the United Kingdom.

If it’s o.k. to combine the birthdays of Lincoln and Washington, why not those of Robert E. Lee and Benedict Arnold?
