What could possibly go wrong? Just a good guy with a gun.

Involuntary manslaughter makes sense because the gentleman involuntarily acquired the weapon and involuntarily decided to pull it out on a public street and involuntarily put his finger on the trigger, which was involuntarily pulled.

What do you think the charges would have been if the shooter had been a 20 year-old Black kid?

They would still be counting the bullet holes in his corpse.

It’s very dangerous to live in the U.S., especially states such as Georgia and Florida where almost everyone carries a gun.

You never know when a stray bullet is going to find its in in your path and through you.

Ah…another “responsible” gun owner.

Not exactly sure why this guy shouldn’t hang. He deprived another human being of their life through a gross act of negligence which was totally avoidable. Were it death by car at least a person could say they lost control of something that was nearly indispensably needed to live in our modern society. He didn’t HAVE to be carrying that gun in public. Yes it was his right, but only if he did it responsibly and safely. He did neither. And now someone is dead. Something tells me an involuntary manslaughter conviction may yield no more than probation and a fine by the time the charge is adjudicated. Yet someone is dead. Hang the bastard.

Wait a second. Bullets can cross STREETS? WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME THIS?!?!!?

Next thing you know, you’ll tell me that bullet fired carelessly, or accidentally, can pass through a nonpartisan wall and kill someone on the other side!

I’m sorry to hear that a woman lost her life, but this story fails to answer the really important question. Was the gun okay?

For the love of God, please tell me that the gun survived this incident. Was it damaged in any way? Did it sustain any injuries when the shooter dropped it on the ground? I’m sure it’s been confiscated by the authorities as part of the investigation, but please tell me they’re taking good care of it. I encourage those authorities to do whatever they can to make sure this gun can be back on the street soon to kill again – just like Jefferson, Madison and Hamilton intended.

I encourage the entire TPM community to keep the gun in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

Now let’s see, Georgia . . . that’s that guns everywhere state?

Good thing CongressWhores at all levels are immune from their legislative votes of wanton destruction.

Lemme guess. The Old Heidelberg Restaurant and Bar. German Food. Malted beverages. White ‘patriot’ exercising his 2nd Amendment rights, and also Georgia’s ‘Carry Everywhere’ laws…

EDIT:
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

The gun accidentally discharged, and the bullet traveled across Helen’s tourist-laden Main Street and struck the woman in the side.

In a brief telephone interview, Lampien’s wife, Valerie, said her husband was recovering. She was not with him Saturday night in Helen. “I don’t know what happened myself,” she said. “It’s an unfortunate situation.”

To her statement that her husband was recovering: Is the Gun OK after this ‘unfortunate situation’? That is all we really want to know…

“The shooting occurred less than two months after a new law took effect in Georgia that greatly extended gun owners’ rights to carry weapons in public places. Bars are among the locations covered by House Bill 60.”

In an online forum sponsored by GeorgiaPacking.org, a gun-rights advocacy group, one commenter said Sunday: “Of course, HB 60 will be blamed.”

It wasn’t the guns fault!! Thanks Obama!

“The gun accidentally discharged”? OK, so in this case, it really was the gun’s fault.

Nuh uh! It was an “accident”!

geez. and i thought guns saved lives.

NRA Spokesman: I think what we should all take away from this is that the man carrying the gun is perfectly safe and was completely unarmed.

Helen is a major tourist center in the north Georgia mountains. Someone decided to make it look “Alpine” 40 years ago and it just took off. I would ask how this would impact visitor counts and follow up over the next weeks. See if Helen merchants respond in some way, asking that people keep their guns at home. (I see lots of signs around Atlanta saying the same since the “guns anywhere” law went into effect.)

I’d forgotten about Helen - it’s a really nice place to visit. Too bad you might die while you’re there.

Just another small price to pay to protect our precious 2A rights.
