Discussion: Georgia Church Sign: 'Homosexuality Is A Death Worthy Crime'

Thanks for the reply, but I deleted mine since @NotBornEveryMinute beat me to the punch on leviticus and shellfish

I await the church’s next sign advocating the death penalty for adulterers:

If there is a man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, one who commits adultery with his friend’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
Leviticus 20:10

And let’s not forget disobedient sons:

If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death.
Dueteronomy 21:18-21

We could spend all day pointlessly debating anachronistic biblical content, but the wiser thing would be to recognize the stupidity of looking to ancient texts for moral guidance. The people who wrote them were spectacularly ignorant of psychology, sexuality, physics, cosmology, etc., and lived in a time of brutal authoritarianism, racism and misogyny. They literally have nothing to tell us about how we should live our lives.

“We LOVE those dirty, filthy, hellbound faggots…but in a BROTHERLY way, you understand.”

The debate is not pointless. There are many people in the US who are very actively trying to make all of us live by [edit: a subset of] these ancient, savage rules!

“Homosexuality is an abomination, and the Bible says that homosexuality is a death worthy crime,” Lee told WGXA.

“I think about hot gay sex all the time, and trust me, it’s an abomination,” Lee continued.

And Jesus said a remarried divorced person was an adulterer. And given the divorce rates in the red states, if you killed the adulterers you’d mostly depopulate the south. Not bashing the south, mind you, hey, get divorced if you’re miserable, but maybe we can lay off the talk about who the Bible says to kill.

But nothing will happen to him or his idiotic parishioners

I am ROTFLMAO. That was so good

I’m going back to watching the Osprey nest in Bremen, Maine. Birds and animals are far more interesting than reading about stupid ignoramuses who really shouldn’t be allowed to occupy the planet

Leviticus is awesome for finding all sorts of things in which to condemn people:

Ranchers:
“You shall not breed together two kinds of your cattle”

Farmers:
“you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed”

Tailors:
“nor wear a garment upon you of two kinds of material mixed together”

And that’s just in 1 passage! Leviticus 19:20

What about having shaved sideburns, a “I Love Jesus” tattoo, and feasting at a clam bake? Does that earn one a triple death sentence?

People wonder why I was happy to leave Georgia–a little snow and cold sure beats living among wingnuts and libertarians. Milledgeville, btw, is most famous for its state mental hospital. Going to Milledgeville is synonymous with being crazy.

Oh don’t stop there …Pastor ya support that ya got to support this :
Sexual acts
All of these used to merit death in ancient times, however with the destruction of the second Jewish temple the Jewish Sanhedrin courts all but abolished the death penalty. In Israel (where Judaic religious courts still exist), capital punishment is allowed only during wartime and only for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and treason.

Having homosexual intercourse between men (Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13)
Committing adultery between a man and a woman (Leviticus 20:10-12)
Lying about virginity (Deuteronomy 22:20-21)[3]
Being one of the majority of women that don’t bleed when losing your virginity (Deuteronomy 22:20-21)[4]
Being the daughter of a priest and practicing prostitution (Leviticus 21:9)[5]

Having incestual sex (Leviticus 20:17)
Marrying a woman and her daughter(Leviticus 20:14)[10]
Having sex with a woman who is menstruating (Leviticus 20:18)

A few of these crimes demand that the “sinners” be burned to death rather than stoned to death, the more usual form of capital punishment. One can wonder why these crimes in particular merit this especially horrible fate.[11]

Being a town that believes in another, non-YHWH god (Deuteronomy 13:12-15)[16]
Giving one of your descendants to Molech (Leviticus 20:2)[17]
Not being a priest and going near the tabernacle when it is being moved (Numbers 1:51)
Being a false prophet (Deuteronomy 13:5, Deuteronomy 18:20, Zechariah 13:2-3)
Performing any work on the Sabbath (Exodus 20:10)
Going to the temple in an unclean state (Numbers 19:13)
Engaging in ritual animal sacrifices other than at the temple (Leviticus 17:1-9)
Manufacturing anointing oil (Exodus 30:33)

Violent and legal crimes

Murdering a slave (Exodus 21:26-27)[18]

God love those christians!!

I wonder if he follows ALL the rules that the old Jewish people in Leviticus have attributed to their own god.

In the days before refrigeration and antiseptics, I imagine eating shellfish and getting tattoos might have been self-punishing capital crimes.

Freedom of speech doesn’t cover incitement of violence. If one of his congregation were to take it as a directive to “do the right thing,” could it rise to criminality?

And of course the asshole pastor’s name is Robert Lee. I mean, why wouldn’t it be, right?

I’m saving a copy of this sign and where it’s from for the next Christian who tells me that “hate the sin, love the sinner.” bullshit Christians are supposed to espouse
