Discussion: George HW Bush Apologizes Again After Second Woman Says He Groped Her

My wife was a hospice nurse for a couple years and was groped numerous times by patients. She never made an issue about it because many passed shortly thereafter.

I’m just waiting for the older stories to start coming out–Bush Sr’s been in this business for a long time. And here we thought Jr. took after his mother…

He did sign the ADA after all so his wayward hand might be allowed.
At 93 He’s still more sentient than the current occupant of the White House.

If it’s really because of the wheelchair and not about the women… is he groping men too at photo ops?

I think his wayward arm still knows the difference.

He thinks people are so awed by the majesty of a one-term president that he has to “put them at ease”.

Very sad. Disgusting creep.

"…and on occasion, he has patted women’s rears in what he intended to be a good-natured manner. Some have seen it as innocent; others clearly view it as inappropriate. To anyone he has offended, President Bush apologizes most sincerely.” The spokesperson continued, “Besides, he’s very old, the end is near, and he’s been married to Barbara all these years. Jeeebus, give the guy a break and let him have his fun.”

What I see here now is the pathetic lack of self-control of a demented ancient old man in a wheelchair. However I would not discount the possibility that he engaged in sexual harassment in his past.

Weren’t there rumors about him having an in-White House affair, too?

"To anyone he has offended, President Bush apologizes most sincerely.”

The classic “non-apology.” “I’m sorry I got caught…” And this nonsense about this being a cause of his age and physical condition? Just plain bullshit. As another poster inquired, how many times has his hand come to rest on the “lower waist” of a man? I’m gonna guess never…

Wondering if the new trend is to acknowledge your behavior and apologize? Seems like HW & Halpern admitted to the assaults and moved swiftly to apologize. The ONLY refreshing thing in this the candor, but wow, groping and creepy advances by men in power is prevalent (or at least being flagged alot) today.

Yes, but the impulse to sentimentalize and sanitize ex-Presidents is overwhelming.
Might as well try to stop a freight-train.

My daughter is in a church group that visits elderly patients. And it happened to her as well, she did not feel “assaulted” and I could not really feel outrage. Old folk get their wires crossed and do this kind of things.

These women Heather Lind & Jordana Grolnick, of whom I never heard before are just trying to get attention and not helping at all. If a pat in the derriere amounts to “sexual assault” then people will start to become dismissive of the whole thing.

If Ms. Lind & Ms.Grolnick really want to contribute they should talk about the producers or directors that have asked for favors. But, oh no, that will get them blacklisted, bitching about a pat in the back from a nonagenarian is a safe way to get attention.

They were more than rumors. It was a personal assistant on his staff for many years, apparently going back to when he was in the Oil business. Before the Republicans tried to derail Clinton’s nomination for President (in which GHWB had to have been complicit) with “bimbo explosions” and disclosures about WJC’s affairs, Bush’s decades long affair was kept under wraps by the political media. Joe Conason did a front page article for a magazine during the campaign, while GHWB was still president in which he called out the Media for playing Old School for GWHB but not WJC. The article listed the other woman’s name, but interspersed among many other names. It was for an edgy political magazine the name of which I cannot recall. The Republicans continued to beat the drum of Bill Clinton immorality throughout his 2 terms. The WJC House Impeachment Committee and hearings were chaired by Henry Hyde. He had been awarded the honor of Knight of the Catholic Church, the hypocritical son of a bitch. During the Impeachment hearings it was revealed that Hyde, Dan Burton, Bob Barr, Elizabeth Chenoweth and probably others sitting in judgment of Bill Clinton’s sexual pecadillos were all involved in extra marital affairs. Hyde’s affair had been decades long and had destroyed the other woman’s marriage and family. I am not aware that the Catholic Church of Pope JP2 ever withdrew its award to Hyde. When his affair was revealed in the Media, Hyde emotionally claimed he would not be intimidated from doing his Constitutional Duty.

If you don’t know who his accusers are, how can you be so certain of their motivations?

I ain’t going to defend the actions.

I will say though, when I did my CNA clinicals ( and god bless the people who do that job, i’ll Stick to being a paramedic, less messy) I got groped by 90 year old patient’s several times… and I’m a guy.

I will also say, the fact that they have been wheeling this 93 year old glorified corpse around for photo ops for the past four years almost smacks of elder abuse.

Because I did not get to be an old man by misjudging people, and I lived in pretty rough environments.
