The Republicans should have insisted on a more appropriate song for this entire FUBAR event.

Hummm…like…Oh, I know. On Day 1:

At this FUBAR event it appears theft was a major theme: Malaria’ steals from the First Lady; Donny Jr. steals from F.H. Buckley; the Campaign steal from a deceased George Harrison…and the whole event was textually and thematically stolen from The Nuremberg Rallies and a KKK cross burning!

Trump has made a fortune by stealing the labor of others. This is no different.

Forget the song. The big picture here is Trump’s ability to offend even the dead.

“Well Trump is on a roll, but that’s side the point…”

I’m not even going to do a count on how many times that Trump has basically infringed on an artist’s rights, because at this point, it is what is. However here’s something from Filewrapper on this matter (and it leads to other links such as ASCAP and RIAA). I think I have mentioned this before, but there is a master license that campaigns buy to play an artist’s particular music. For example: Sara Baralies’s ‘Brave’ was played by the Clinton campaign on the last night of the primary campaign. However the Baralies camp gave Hillary for America permission to play that tune.

In spite of the media suggesting otherwise, an artist has the right to submit a cease and desist letter to a campaign , if they feel that song usage would affect overall future sales or in Adele’s case, she didn’t want to get caught in that mire. If a campaign complains or ignores the cease and desist letters…

There have been other successful lawsuits, but expediency

Hopefully Pat Benatar will give Hillary the OK to use one of her songs for the convention…it’s quite a fitting song actually.

ummm no. He knows the best lawyers, but it just takes one successful lawsuit to get him on his heels.

Great moment!

Well, to be fair, the only one they got who’d let 'em play his stuff is that crazy bastard Ted Nugent. While ‘Stranglehold’ may be the appropriate choice for this nominee’s acceptance speech, it may be a bit too on the nose for prime time.

Sue the RNC or trump’s fat ass!!
Hey,… I’m offended as well. Could that make it a class action suit? Huh? Please?

Amazing…‘Here comes the sun’ when the convention was all about darkness and how this country is going to hell unless THEY save it…‘funny’ how they can only remember back 'til 2008…

This thievery has been going on now for so long that all musicians (not counting poopy pants Nug or Lee Greenwood) should send every Republican running for office in 2018 a certified notice that no music may be played at R events without the written consent of the writers/performers. Michelle Obama should sign on too.

This is emblematic for how the Trump organization runs. The campaign knows they are doing something wrong and they don’t care. Queen has already asked them to stop using their songs. The Rolling Stones sent Trump a cease and desist letter. Someone from the Clinton campaign needs to make a deal out of this. Trump calls himself the law and order candidate but he can’t even be bothered to follow intellectual property law.

This is more so emblematic of how modern day GOP campaigns are run. They have a right to play any song that they want to, but they have been warned in the past to ask for an artist’s permission. I give it the usual three days, before the ‘well we have this master license…’ press release again coming from the Trump campaign.

As for a lawsuit, artists have won em before, but these things usually involve lots of legal paperwork and its Donald John Trump (a guy who has gamed the legal system) that they will be going up against…

My Guitar Gently Weeps would have been appropriate. But given the tone of Trump’s acceptance speech, the Trumpsters probably prefer My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama.
