Maybe she was just looking for a relatively cheap private school. We have no idea what the public schools are like in his area. Let’s not leap to the “obvious.” It’s often far off the mark.

The academy is adjacent to NASA/Clear Lake.
It’s a somewhat monied district-- public schools considered above average-to-good.

I personally know some of the teachers and parents at the school. They seem decent enough, but this certainly is not the ethos of the inclusive Lutheranism that I saw in my parents. Around here, of course, many of the churchy types of all denominations are very intolerant of anyone not white/straight/(tea)vangelical. It is Texas, after all.
The bible declares a lot of things to be sinful, and most of them are likely practiced by that very same principal. But being gay is the only one that he thinks is gross, so like a diner at a buffet, he’s hand-picked that one from the numerous other selections.
