Our gas line safety is a laugh. I fear for a major line in NYC going off on a typical city street where there is no where for the explosion to go but up, taking out an entire streets apartments facing it.

“Front-loaders” don’t dig - they are used for scooping up loose materiel that is already on the surface. Either the reporter was very sloppy about correctly identifying the piece of equipment being used, or that was not the cause of the leak.
