Obama tried to fix the broken election systems, but we need an even bigger effort to both upgrade the security uniformly across the country and allow auditability of the vote.

Lamb said he first came across the files in August 2016 and brought them to the attention of the center’s director, Merle King, who he says vowed to patch the hole. But a second private researcher was able to access the same data as Lamb earlier this year

Feature not bug.

It’s like Ms. Handel was psychic, and foresaw the need for future election malfunctions?

Very impressive…

Always good to know that we have so many states that have entirely unauditable voting systems.

Yeah I liked the way they dismissed identified security holes on the basis that they’ve been left unaddressed for so long.

Kinda like the GOP approach to civil rights…

First, a report from 2008 is not “more than 10 years ago.” So, learn to count.

Second, yes, it does make sense to ask whether your boss acted on a report that she asked for and which revealed significant election systems vulnerabilities, regardless of how long ago that was. It kind of has to do with her competence and integrity.

But those security holes have been there since at least 2008! That makes them unquestionable! These are well-established security holes!

It’s a tragic comparison, but … In that terrible apartment building fire in London, the residents’ committee had complained to the owners during remodeling about the fire dangers, lack of alarms, and lack of sprinkler systems, and the owners ignored them. It was a horrible tragedy waiting to happen, and they knew it.

The vulnerabilities in our election system are a terrible blow to our democracy waiting to happen, and we know it.

Maybe not even…waiting.

The secretary of state “remains confident in Georgia’s elections systems and voting equipment.”

“…to elect Republicans.”

OT tangent, but I’m still curious that the London high-rise seemed to have a large predominance of Muslim resident’s. Wonder if that’s part of their inquiry?

I’m sure it is, on the source of the fire (that the building was targeted because of its Muslim residents). One thing they noted on BBC World News is that it was Muslim men on their way to early morning prayers who first saw the fire and sounded the alarm, and tried to get people out.

Edited to make clear that I didn’t think @maximus was implying anything against the Muslims.

More specifically, Muslims observing Ramadan saved residents in London high-rise fire

Yep, my curiosity is more in the line of whether the large Muslim population was the REASON for the fire.

Seemed to spread horrifically fast.

And no, I’m not a conspiracy theorist, it just struck me as odd when they were interviewing the resident’s/.

When it comes to voting low tech seems to make the most sense. Using Canada as an example. You mark off a paper ballot by putting a X in the appropriate box then it’s put in a ballot box.
They are counted the same evening by independent monitors.
Can’t be simpler than that. Eh
