Discussion: Friend Says Shooting Suspect 'On The Really Progressive Side Of Things'

Mental health problems don’t recognize political affiliations.

It is unfortunate there won’t be any movement toward policies that would address the toxic mix of hopelessness and mental health problems that leads to stuff like this.

Other than changing this week’s news from Russia to Socialism.

Even if he did have mental health issues, it wont matter because he was apparently on the left, if he was a right winger then the focus would be mental health and not that but, yeah…

Mental health problems and access to AR 17s.

Yep, the NRA combo-platter…

It has been pretty clear out here deep in the Enchanted Forest that the renewed GOP effort to destroy Obamacare with no discernable replacement has been a tipping point…

Mental health excuses do not apply here. He belongs to the wrong party. This will be spun and it will be spun and it will be spun…

We need to stop moving in the other direction first. I think that’s physics.

Since when, in America, is firing a gun a guarantee of insanity?

The right wing media is going to go apeshit over this guy’s political leanings, and ignore anything else that might have contributed to him trying to take out members of Congress. I suspect we’ll learn that something about the Obamacare repeal made him take action, but that will all be lost in the shuffle of “the murderous left hates Republicans!!!” outcry.

This is why using violence is the wrong answer, it just backfires and empowers the right to behave even more badly.

I think in America, the desire to own guns is prima facie evidence of sanity as far as the NRA and GOP go.

This violence, portrayed as deeply political by the deeply political for deeply political reasons, will ignite more fuses just as the continued political hot potato of healthcare created a dangerous tipping point among the normally complaisant.

A toxic cocktail mix, stirred with a gun…

I think it’s quite possible that Trump is leading us into a very real civil war. His brand of extremism is making people crazy.

We should never presume that such extremes exist only on the right. It seems to be more prevalent there, but it isn’t an exclusive club.

Let’s not let the religious community off the hook on this one. Right wing evangelicals love to invoke the omniscient, omnipotent, all-loving invisible man in the sky every time it suits their agenda. According to them, nothing happens by chance and their god has his hand in every single minute event on earth. A fair question is: What did Steve Scalise do to bring the wrath of god upon himself? Remember, 9/11 happened because America tolerates gay marriage (according to the evangelicals). Can’t have it both ways, holy rollers. Why did god want to injure these people? Inquiring minds want to know.

I like right-wingers:
Nixon, Heath…

NIXON
De Gaulle.

MAO
No, not De Gaulle. I’m loath
to file him in that pigeonhole.

KISSINGER
But Germany’s another tale.

We’ve more than once led the right wing
forward while text-book cadres swung
back into goose-step, home at last.
How your most rigid theorist
revises as he goes along!

NIXON
Now you’re referring to Wang Ming,
Chiang, Chang Kuo-tao and Li Li-san.

MAO
I spoke generally.
The line we take now is a paradox.
Among the followers of Marx the extreme left,
the doctrinaire,
tend to be fascist.

NIXON
And the far right?

MAO
True Marxism is called that by
the extreme left.
Occasionally the true left calls
a spade a spade and tells the left it’s right.

Irony or karma, the party of guns and bullets for all, including the mentally ill, just directly reaped what it’s sown. And having their own cops with guns didn’t protect them from the violence. What now Mr. La Pierre?

And? It’s our job to spin back.

It’s not an excuse, it’s a fact, Maximus said it very well as the lead poster. We complain about Fox watch, gun toting, rednecks, but at the heart of this is nearly always the mental heath problems of the shooters.
