Discussion: Franken Wades Into A Comeback In The #MeToo Era

he’s served his time in the penalty box; it shouldn’t be a life sentence FFS.

If you have followed Gillibrand career within the Senate you will note she has been fighting for accountability for years. Fighting the military, corporations and other, so her statements were not one-off but in line with her history. Yes, it may have been better to go along with an investigation but it is not her position to ask for one but Franken’s.

Of course it is. She’s a Senator.

Lets see…
TPM posts a story that’s guaranteed to get posters snarling at each other. Check.
Is it a Hillary story? No.
Is it a BLM story? No.
Is it a #MeToo story? Yes.
Is it a Pelosi story? No.
Is it a major police shooting story? No.
Is it an Obama story? No.
Is it a lets-dig-up-an-old-controversy-that-pits-dems-vs-dems story? Yes.
Is it Friday? Yes.

There you have it! More than two yeses. TPM is trolling us on Friday again.

The weaponization of #metoo by ratfuckers like Stone and Bannon was allowed to run amuck. It was the timing (Roy Moore) and chaos that allowed it to happen. That and chicken shit Dems who would not stand up for the guy who got Sessions to recuse himself from the Mueller investigation.

Bring back Al!

I choose to disagree as I believe those directly involved should be making those calls, any Senator other than Franken were 3rd parties.

As I stated earlier, I like Al, it would be good to see him run and win once again. With that said, as long as he and his cronies continue in the teardown mode I’ll not back him. All these stories are is payback in a nasty nasty way.

So Al should definitely make a new play - but for what? As article said, MN politics are sewn up for a good while and the DNC chairmanship, which he’d be great at, is also not available.

Saying you will not vote for someone because you don’t respect them (Gillibrand) is a democratic option. Franken asked for an investigation, where he and his accusers would testify under oath. What good was served by denying him that? Gillibrand is an opportunist who did the wrong thing. Not voting for her is NOT the same as forcing her out of office.

There. Is that consistent enough?

They didn’t have a problem telling him to resign, so I don’t see how they aren’t making those calls.
So yes, we will disagree on this one.

“Brian McClung, a Republican strategist…”

Seriously?

SERIOUSLY?!

The day a “Republican strategist” publicly declares his party’s Serial-Rapist-in-Chief unfit to hold office – or calls for Supreme Court Justice Rapeypants to resign in disgrace – or denounces the entire GOP House and Senate majority for enabling both – is the day I take any “Republican strategist” – or the AP – as anything other than a lying, hypocritical, jackass and a waste of adult attention.

Franken did ask for an investigation. Some of the women didn’t want to testify, correct? I wonder why.

Didn’t Keith Ellison just resign as deputy chair of the DNC because he won the MN attorney general race? Why not Al to replace him??

Imagine yourself a female employee at the DNC…

In reading Al’s book, one of the things I loved as learning how much work Al put into his job as Senator. He would get home and in the evening before upcoming hearings, he would get advance copies of planned testimony often by administration witnesses being called to discuss a given issue and look for apparent inconsistencies, falsehoods, and obfuscation and then confront them the next day with detailed facts.

And as noted, Al is one of the few (tragically) members of Congress who truly understands the vital technology issues facing our country.

If nothing more, Al is entitled to a fair hearing on the charges against him. He didn’t get that, nor a chance to demonstrate that whatever actions he may have taken in terms of harassment have been recognized and proper contrition demonstrated in both word and deed. I am sick about this whole situation. Franken was one of our truly bright lights.

Roger Stone will soon be sporting Orange clothing. So, at least there’s that.

Why would we care what a "Republican strategist” thinks on this matter? It is reasonable to think Al was not given a fair hearing. I would be happy to have him back in public service.

And that is what Franken dud ask for. Gillibrand just couldn’t wait. She had to grand-stand.

“Even after being forced out of the U.S. Senate by his fellow Democrats a year ago, Franken seems to refuse to accept responsibility for his actions,” said Brian McClung, a Republican strategist who was spokesman for former GOP Gov. Tim Pawlenty. “Eight women accused him of sexual harassment. While people deserve second chances and the opportunity to redeem themselves, Franken has a long, long way to go.”

This is the comment of a Republican strategist. Let that sink in. Republicans really don’t want to see Franken active again.

I am with Bill Maher on this one. Al Franken needs to get back into the fight.

I am not so sure he was ever in need of “accountability.” Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t. But when the best “proof” is an obvious joke photo, however crude, there’s not much of a case.

Franken did not admit to anything, really. Gillibrand didn’t care. She’ll never get my vote.

Which is why it was felt in some quarters that he had to go.
