Discussion: Fox News Rebuts Report That Debate-Setting Polls Have Been Decided

Discussion for article #239041

“We’re days away from our first debate and we’re desperately trying to come up with a polling system that would allow us to exclude Donald Trump from the debates.”

They are simply tacitly admitting that they are just waiting for Fox News President Roger Ailes to tell them who is in and who is out.

"all of the ‘reporting’ in this story is based off zero knowledge of what’s actually going on.”

Including this very report by the Fox News spokesman.

Lower-tier candidates including former Hewlitt Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, former New York Gov. George Pataki, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore all polled at 2 percent or less in the survey.

I’m crossing my fingers in hopes that Santorum and Jindal will somehow make it to the debate stage. These guys are so great for the Democratic brand and it would be a shame if they missed out.

BTW, how have I not heard of this Jim Gilmore?

I expect they will “poll” their upper executives about whom they’d like (who’d likely bring in the best ratings).

So, the simple task of setting up a gop debate is about par for the course if you slide this whole idea right next to the gopers in the house and senate. Total confusion, backstabbing, lying, who gets the most money etc.etc
Same crap different day.

The truly awesome part is that no matter what polls they use or criteria they create they still have to include Trump. There’s simply no way of escaping his candidacy.

Whether kiddie debate or the alleged big boy debate if your soundbite has zing, personality and a hint of evil it will get heavy media rotation…so sharpen your sticks and shivs boys and girl.

Translation: we’re playing around with different polls to make sure Roger’s favored candidates like John Kasich make the cut.

after the embarrassing performances four years ago the RNC decided to forgo the mainstream media and only allow presidential ‘debates’ on the propaganda wing, Fox Mews… thereby avoiding the ‘oops’ moments when asked the difficult questions… like… what newspapers do you read, I know… older question, or what three Cabinet positions would you eliminate…

Fox Mews has show the same skill and adroitness at organizing the debates as their governmental counterparts… the House and the Senate… :smirk:

FOX SPOX – “We’ll let you know which polls we’re using as soon as Roger speaks with David and Charles to tell us. Right now, the boys are busy on the West Coast picking Scotty Walker to be the Republican nominee…we’ll let you know as when the shot callers let us know…of and thanks for playing…”

And the first question to all the GOPer candidates will be: “The president is an uppity black and there will never be a black person as President again, right? All those in favor say “aye!”. Next question…!”

What if they had a debate and no one came ?

So “lower-tier” candidates are polling at 2% while some “upper-tier” candidates are polling at 3% in a poll with a 4% margin of error. Good times. Good times.

I have never understood this line of thinking. Some of the very worst GOP moments from 2012 were during debates with GOP-friendly moderators and networks. That’s because Conservative moderators are going to hold candidates’ feet to the fire where it concerns issues the base is most passionate about. Sure, they’re unlikely to have an honest discussion about climate change or income inequality. Instead, they’re going to be talking about whether Benghazi is the worst tragedy ever or the worst tragedy in their lifetime. They’ll be talking about “illegals” leaving headless bodies in the desert, chem trails, who will defund PP the hardest, who will pass a Constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality, who will repeal Obamacare the best, etc. Allowing far right moderators and networks to take control of their debates simply means they’ll be debating issues Bush, Kasich, and Christie don’t want to talk about, issues that Trump, Carson, and Huckabee can’t wait to talk about extensively. I don’t see how that’s beneficial to the GOP.

Something tells me Fox News wishes it had never agreed to sponsor this debate in the first place. Still, as the propaganda arm of the GOP they must be working hand in glove with Reince Priebus on how to proceed, no? Priebus must be crapping his pants trying to keep the havoc caused by Donald Trump to a minimum, but that certainly is not going as planned. I am fascinated how he is going to thread that needle!

speaking of threading the needle…

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God

Matthew 19:24

to quote the work of fiction the publicly pious are so fond of quoting and ignoring at their convenience…

It would be an absolute blessing for the country, and the country would be a little saner as a result.
