Discussion: Fox News Host: Stephen Colbert Owes His Success To Us

Discussion for article #231378

It’s not your gaffes that made Colbert’s career, but the things you perfectly intended to do and say. He’s mocking you, not your mistakes.

Well, technically, everything that comes out of Fox is a mistake, but I see your point.

Shorter non-funny man: “Yeah, we’re horrible and really easy to make fun of. He should thank us for being such idiots!”

Not so much a mistake as a joke and I don’t mean that they are funny. I mean that they are idiots.

None of them get it. That is the funniest part.

To use a word popular with Tea Party types, they are “morans”!!!

“He should write an eight-figure check to Fox News,” Gutfeld said, “because all of our gaffes made that man’s career.”

That works out to… (scribbles furiously) $1.13 cents per “gaffe.” Isn’t he selling FOX News pretty cheap?

It would be somewhat charming and even admirable if this had been said in a tongue-in-cheek way with a nod-and-a-wink. “Yes, we know we act like idiots, haha” - but this clown actually said it sincerely, not realizing why Fox is seen as such a joke to people who aren’t the slack-jawed dimwits who watch them religiously.

Dear Fox bubble-dwellers:

Stephen Colbert doesn’t owe you, he’s pwned you. There’s a not-so-subtle difference you might want to explore.

Yeah, Steve, just remember: YOU DIDN’T BUILD THAT!

Not to put too fine a point on it but ummm… no…he doesn’t. Satire and parody is an equal opportunity type of humor. Something Fox talking heads would never understand. Stephen Colbert is a brilliant comedian, you guys are hacks whom I would call something other than actual journalists. What I have in mind shouldn’t be shared in polite company.

It’s true!

If Fox hadn’t provided such a rich field of malignorance, stupidity, and extremism

Stepehn Colbert would never have reached the pinnacle of perfection in his ‘severely conservative’ schtick!

Conservatives in general don’t understand parody. I remember reading that Tom DeLay recommended Colbert for the White House correspondent dinner gig in 2006 because he just didn’t get it.

It’s true!

EDIT: I couldn’t evidence supporting that claim, but I did find this, which proves he really doesn’t get “it”.

It’s laughable to think that “gaffes” were the source of Colbert’s ridicule of the CONservative echo chamber, it was their constant drumbeat of outrageous, arrogant, venal, half truths, innuendo, insinuation, and out-right lies by their mean-spirited, flying-monkey menions that made Colbert’s job so easy and enjoyable to watch.
