Yeah, if he’s making a point of telling everyone how much hate mail he’s getting two days in a row, I think this is less about damage control and more about self-promotion. He’s a Bold Teller of Truths, an Independent Voice who will Stand Up for What’s Right, etc.
This is basic audience-grooming schtick. Listen to what crazy people say. Listen to what these awful, rude people are saying about me. But I’ll never stop telling it like I see it, yadda yadda yadda.
