The one thing I learned from this is that Stacy Dash was once an actress.
Reprising her role in Clueless, it seems.
I would hate to be her agent.
The valid argument that I could see would be based on performance of movies you are in and so on. So the more you bring the more you make. It definitely does not work that way most of the time and some people get a name, for good performances and awards and so on.
If the actresses do a good job than they deserve to get paid the same. If they are more of a co-star in the movie than they should not. An equal part should be equal pay though and vice versa (say a male co-star to a female star).
amazing how much you have to dehumanize yourself to feel secure in your job at Fox…and how willing people are to do that…just pathetic
her best role was in Playboy
Fox News contributor and former actress Stacey Dash said on Friday’s
“Outnumbered” that female actresses should stop complaining about gender
bias and be “grateful” for being cast alongside famous male actors.
She has a point. If women keep making noise, Hollywood will just resort to doing it the way it used to be done - using men in drag to play women’s roles.
Fox News hosts have one, and only one, job: stimulate the amygdalae of white male conservatives, taking into account that Fox’s demographic skews old–not older, old–and less educated. The primary goal is to induce a constant state of anxiety and irritation and discontent, an itch that can only be scratched by coming back to the thing that’s causing that feeling, enabling them to exercise a degree of control over their actions.
And they do that by using the same techniques liquor advertisers have been doing for decades–the pervasive use of dark brooding color tones and other themes evocative of death and mortality and decline, generously decorated with sexually objectified women. That’s what it’s all about–the dark blue backgrounds, the sorority house talent, the constant overt fear mongering, the annoying, irritating chyrons and graphics noisily whooshing in and out.
Nothing happens on Fox that doesn’t serve that end. Nothing.

know your place
“If you want something, you have to fight for it, you know,”
Cognitive dissonance or stupid? either way it hurts.

Who needs women in film?
Dash added that Kathryn Bigelow got an Oscar for the movie “The Hurt Locker.”
“Like it’s relative. It’s all relative,” Dash said. “Like I said you have to fight for what you want and be good at it. Be extraordinary at it.”
Like, Barbra Streisand was nominated as Best Director in 1983. Fast forward 20 years and Bigelow is nominated and wins. Like, that’s not progress.
This woman’s best work was in Clueless. She was that character.
So, you’ve gotta be grateful for what you got and if you want more, then get it. Work for it.”
This statement seems contradictory to me.
She’s suggesting people be happy with what they get and if you want more fight for it.
Isn’t that what they are doing now? What, exactly is the issue here?
From her internet movie database page. Strange it kind of contradicts her Fox comments, Based on what she said on Fox, she should be grateful that directors were trying to sleep with her.
Personal Quotes (2)
I took the bus, I took the train, I did whatever I had to do, and I went into the city and auditioned for things.
I came across awful characters when I got some kind of status and came to Hollywood. Then you have directors trying to sleep with you, assuming that you will do things because of the way you dress.
getting the sense that Stacey Dash is playing a role - Black, Female member of the Hollywood set - with a strong contrarian conservative streak who has seen the light and speaks the truth of the conservative perspective - making her ‘one of the good ones’. Think ‘Condoleezza Rice - Lite’
You tell em, Stacey. Those wimmens should just be happy to have a fucking job, right?
Hey, what’s it like to be an Uncle Tom? I didn’t think white people could do that!
I’m an executive in Hollywood (and a male) and while the Fox News segment is silly the overall issue is a very complex one. In many ways women are doing amazingly well. Prior to Amy Pascal’s implosion two of the six studios were run by women and women are strongly represented in the senior ranks of film executives. Same on the producing side. At Sundance, 36% of films were directed by women - a huge number considering that more men than women overall are seeking to be directors (which of course can be a problem on its own but I’m just looking at chance of success not total number), so that women numerically start at a lower number of overall film submissions and are if anything over indexing in their representation, particularly in the case of white women who make up the vast majority of women directors. That’s not to say there’s not room for improvement but we focus a lot on the studio jobs, which are shrinking and always the last to change because loads of people (including many women) have approval there. Sundance shows you the directors of the future, and women are very well represented there. Same at Cannes this year, which is being dubbed the year of the woman. On the pay end, Hollywood is brutally transactional: you get paid what your agent can get you which usually translates to your “value” overseas and domestically. For this same reason Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Lawrence will outearn Brie Larson or Lizzie Olsen who will out-earn a number of women working alongside them. This will in the near term always skew toward men at the top because primarily those male skewing flicks perform better overseas.
None of this is meant to say I approve of the system, but just that it’s not as easy to diagnose as simply saying there’s sexism at work. Of the major industries I’ve had contact with, Hollywood is one where I think women easily have the most power and influence and I don’t want those gains to get lost in the discussion. A greater challenge has been getting more people of color of both genders represented as well as people from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
I’m lucky my wife doesn’t watch Fox. She’d likely reach thru the TV and beyatch slap some sense in that woman.
What a bunch of hooligans!
I wonder if she’s ever compared whatever Fox pays her to whatever they pay their various blondes.
