Discussion: Fox Goes Cold On Trump: Last Holdout Largely Stops Airing Full Rallies

About 1/4 of what Dotard imagines they are. Just like at his coronation…

What’s this country coming to if Fox viewers are no longer excited by a good Nazi rally? Sad!

On a related note: I just finished Saslow’s book Rising Out of Hatred about the transformation of Derek Black from young white nationalist leader (the actual godson of David Duke!) to progressive Democrat. This is a great book and everyone should read it.

Just like his toadstool.

The free ride is over. That should worry him for 2020 too. He’ll have to pay for it this time.

Can I vote for precipitous?

I have a hard time seeing the refusal to air his rallies entire as being anti-Trump.

He’s demented. One of the few things he still does well is letting his id loose spewing hate and mockery on targets that resonate with his audience. But because he’s demented, he is no longer capable of doing this reliably without crossing some of the streams of standard R hatred and paranoia. It’s the only sort of gaffe he can make that the movement worries about, since what we used to think of as gaffes, statements that shock common sense and common decency, are features and not bugs for today’s Rs.

Bottom line, much better, especially this close to the election, to let the guy do his high-wire act with a safety net. Don’t air the act in full or in real time, just show the useful highlights after the fact.

Please cancel Season 4. This Deep State Cyrus Hillary Email NoKo Matryoshka Paper Towel Hidden Genius trope has jumped the shark even for die-hard fans.

Maybe that’s the reason for Fox not showing his rallies, they run out of ways to hid how few people are showing up.

Constant reruns lose steam.

I vote for a 32 feet per second per second fall into a bottomless chasm.

Don’t overthink it. This is business. The move is pro-eyeballs. If they get the same or more viewers with their regular programming then that’s what they’re going to show.

So basically a Gollum scenario then.

They’ll be hosting the pity party of professional victimhood for the next 2 years if the Democrats put him and his crooked cabal on the grill and stymie his plans for a fascist regime.

Sure, Fox is a business. But they have a political agenda, and serving that agenda, rather slavishly, is almost entirely what makes their business successful. The movement has latched onto a certain set of hatreds and phobias to gin up, partly to get a certain set of voters to vote their way, and partly to get those same people as a profit-generating audience for their media outlets. The two goals are inextricable. You can’t serve one without serving the other

So, if they air Trump’s rallies in full and in real time, they risk the idiot saying something that will rev the movement’s audience/voter pool down instead of up. If a gaffe they let become more consequential because they failed to use the safety net of editing his remarks and only showing the useful bits later, causes them to lose this election, that is really bad for both the business model and the political agenda, because their audience/voter pool doesn’t handle defeat well. They’re bullies. If the sheep look up and start fighting back successfully, the cash flow and id stream that gets their voters to the polls both dry up.

Purely rational calculation of the public policy benefit they would get from a fifth justice on SCOTUS would have told them that they needed to ditch Kavanaugh at the first sign of real trouble and sub in someone whose confirmation would be assured. There are plenty of Fed Society goons out there who would have given the same benefits if seated, but would not have run any risk at all of defeat and losing the chance to get any of their goons into the fifth seat. But they threw aside those calculations and toughed through to the end with Kavanaugh because their movement has a glass jaw. They didn’t want to risk a loss that would demoralize their base.

People get tired of seeing the same show over and over and over again…

I’ve long believed that Trump’s crazy base isn’t going to abandon him because of any one thing he does. They’re going to abandon him just because they get bored.

I think they’re extricable. I don’t follow their business fortunes too closely but I’m pretty sure FOX has made money under GOP and Democratic administrations—they’ve been around for a while. They might actually feed off conservative resentment better when the GOP is an opposition party. So that’s not a problem as much as losing viewership. Their audience is going to age itself into the grave unless the programming draws in more new viewers. If you don’t make more money than you spend you eventually don’t have a business. Network executives are a very simple, primitive form of life. They exist on ratings period. They’d give Noam Chomsky a chair and a camera and let him talk 24/7 if that’s what the viewers wanted.

Its a simple equation: does he make himself look good?

If the answer is no, then cut back to the sycophants who can demonstrate his stable genius-itude far better than video of him speaking.
