Discussion: Four People Arrested For Cheering At Mississippi High School Graduation

Discussion for article #237093

Even without photos, I knew the colors of principal and those with the arrest warrents. And, I’ll bet a $100 that there were some white families cheering as well, and they were not served. Assholes.

In Mississippi, black people are basically just a law enforcement problem. There is no issue, concern or potentially problematic interaction that should not be solved by any means except calling the police. Unbelievable.

This is what schools have turned into… administration through the police.

Way to hand off your responsibilities… way to go creating a criminal record for someone for something that absolutely, without a hint of a doubt, should never have been handled by the police.

Counter sue these assholes… defamation of character.

Well, now, between the obvious full-on racism and the profoundly small-minded and prissily hostile dickishness of this move, I’m pretty shocked. Ordinarily school superintendents try not to outrage whole segments of their communities, but we’re not looking at an ordinary school superintendent here.

Massive Disproportionate Response. If Superintendent Dipshit ever tires of education, he looks to have a promising career in law enforcement.

Geez, ingrates. They should pay the fine and move on. The police could have shot them dead in their seats. Then everyone would have had to wait for the inevitable investigation that cleared the officers of any wrongdoing. Their survivors would be paying for funerals that cost a lot more than the coming fines. “Shouting While Black” is illegal. Check the statutes. And ignorance of the law is no excuse.

And then… politics

Thanks. I just sent off an email to him. Of course, he may have to have someone read it to him. His ignorance is just astounding.

Well the charges will be dismissed obviously but WTF? What kind of laws do they have there that allow an officer to arrest for a minor infraction solely on the deposition of a non law enforcement citizen? I have never heard of such a thing. Cops have to see that offense, disturbing the peace, to arrest.

Now the school can pay out a lawsuit.

Imagine teaching in that district. Control issues much?

Northwestern rural MIssippi near the borders with Tenn and Ark lies a sleepy little nowhere town of approximately 7,000 people…about 68% of whom are white people angry about the 28% who are black…

The proper thing is for police there to escort them out. The principle likely pressed charges to set an example, but if that was the plan he should have said that anyone who yelled during the ceremony would be charged with disturbing the peace. All they said was that the people would be escorted out, which is fine. But if you plan to make an arrest, you warn people ahead of time that they may be arrested.

On the other hand why do people feel the need to think the whole ceremony revolves only around their family members? Why can’t people just stfu while the names are being read. Now anyone who videotaped this has to hear this asshole yelling like a clown, if you watch the tape the place is quiet and he comes running down the stairs yelling, causing everyone to turn around with “what the hell is your problem” looks on their faces. Plus graduating high school is more of a milestone, not some huge accomplishment. The kid did not get a Masters or a PHD. It’s a damn HS diploma. Plus students are generally embarrassed when their relatives make fools of themselves like that.

The guy had spinach between his teeth, too. Don’t forget that.

It’s not just the superintendent. The chief of police or whomever had to agree to act on the charge.

Looks like another Ferguson situation, where the local black population exists only to fund the cops.

It’s on video, so they could see it. That would be enough. But the principal only said people would be escorted out for yelling, he did not say they would be arrested for disturbing the peace. He should have said they would be arrested beforehand. Low budget bust for sure. It was more of an asshole outburst, not a continuing annoying disturbance. BS bust.

Oh, so the spinach caused him to yell, I see (eyeroll…)
