OMG I loved that.
ETA And I’ve actually never seen the show. It’s just the idea of this super-expensive fancy HBO production costumer deal having this prosaic bit of litter in the middle of the frame. It may one day help me to laugh over a mistake and get on with life instead of having to be persuaded not to throw myself off a bridge.

Since I’m a Red Sox fan, I had to watch. He mentioned that he played baseball “at a different level - high school” but no embellishment. I threw up a bit in my mouth when Trump announced that among the Red Sox fans in attendance was Senator Tom Cotton. After recounting the Sox’ WS victory fueled in part by Series MVP Steve Pearce, he turned to Pearce and asked how he was doing this year which elicited a wry shrug since he is hitting .111 so far with 4 runs scored and 3 RBIs in 54 at-bats. Unlike most teams who give him a jersey with the number 45, the Sox gave him 18 because 45 is retired in honor of Pedro Martinez. Smart move by the Red Sox, at least there is one norm that Trump wasn’t allowed to break. I don’t think the Sox got fed but they did get a tour of the Lincoln Bedroom from Trump.
I think the team made the best of a bad situation (karma even supplied some light rain for the occasion) and to the extent the visit kept Trump from doing something disastrous and/or treasonous for an hour or two, the country should be thankful that the Sox risked the Curse of ETTD and showed up. Somehow the Patriots have kept ETTD at bay but that is probably because Belichick has his own deal with the Devil which provides some immunity.

What really happened is that he went to an open tryout and pitched…the idea that he become the Yankees’ first mascot. They turned him down, because they couldn’t understand how “Trumppy the Toadstool” was at all related to the team or the game. Also: ewww.

Typical trump White House
Yeah, but Liberace could actually play the piano. Does tRump have any talents that beyond the PT Barnum huckster schtick (schtix?).

All I said was the fucker looks like Liberace. But there’s a comparison there, because Liberace by all accounts never had the ability to interpret the music, to perform as an artist, not just play a bunch of notes, that you need to have a career in the classical world. There was a lot of superficial, flashy schtick mixed with an ability to connect with audiences as a person, and not so much as a musician.
Trump is similar, really, with the whole phenomenon based on his need for attention rather than any one true talent. But Liberace was a harmless, genial, and self-aware about his own mild absurdity. None of that is true of Trump.
It is early, but the Sox routed the Mariners in their first game after visiting the White House. Maybe there is a blanket Boston exception to ETTD.
