Crime in families is an interesting topic.
The article is clearly about the son. The article talks about him testifying in his parents trial and then mentions his twin brother was also arrested (about this time last year).
Ah yes - family values - Dad doing hard time, Mommy doing hard time, and twin brothers with driving while intoxicated arrests, why that is a family I want next door, since they wonât be home - because they are ALL in jail!

Sorry, but I donât really believe this is newsworthy. In theory the American system of Justice doesnât punish the relatives of those convicted of a crime, and while this young man may now have infamous parents it doesnât seem fair to make his transgression a national issue simply because his parents are convicted criminals. If he were anyone else a simply DUII arrest wouldnât be national news, so letâs treat him like any other person. Yes, he apparently screwed up, and yes, quite likely heâll have to pay the price for that, but he should be allowed to move on. Iâm just not really sure what the point of this story isâŚbeyond trying to make the parents appear to be even more terrible than they are. Canât we just leave it at that?

Nope. In fact there is a job opportunity here. Get some layed off workers off unemployment and build the new McDonnell wing on the local prison. Cells #1,2,3,4 and 5 just in case. lol

It became newsworthy, 30 or so years ago, when the Republicans started cramming âFamily valuesâ down the nationâs throat. Once again, the reality is quite different than the hagiography.

Iâm usually the one to shout down people questioning whether something is a story, but Iâm a little queasy about this one. The son didnât make his father run for governor and he didnât make dad a corrupt, canting hypocrite. He got charged with a DWI, which would probably merit a brief for most other peripheral public figures and no coverage at all for most average folks.

In a perfect loving, christian, republican world if these people
were anyone but white republicans they would be called gangsters,
their children would be pillared as dangerous individuals driving while
drunk or drugged. Republicans would be asking what kind of role models
the parents could possibly be (i.e. the Presidentâs children not laughing hysterically at
a turkey pardoning). It is maddening. Is it fair? Well noâbut its topical. And these men
are adults and one was drunk driving.
I think everyone here has been pretty gentle. Also, none of the McDonnells have been shot
down in the road while drunk----so I guess they should consider themselves lucky.

Leave the kids out of this. McDonnell deserves everything thatâs been thrown at him, but his kids didnât have any choice in their parents.

I am a lifelong Virginian and a proud lefty. That said, this article is piling on. The junior Robert McDonnell did not choose his parents. He is a 23-year-old raised in a family with, in my humble opinion, seriously warped values. He doe not deserve this. Take yourself back to when you were his age and then consider the sort of âguidanceâ he received from his parents. He deserves a pass, in my humble opinion.

I feel sorry for these âkidsâ. Not only do they make mistakes but they get it blasted all over the placeâŚbecause their parents are such jerks.
Probably nobody if he is also in jail.

Virginia people need to stop voting for families like the McDonnellâs just because they are Republican and pro-military establishment BIG spending worshipers. Start voting for real people with real values on rebuilding the middle and working class and NOT a government by the corporation, for the corporation, and of the corporation. Republican Reaganonomics is nuking the US middle class and itâs time to reverse the damage!
