She could be difficult, but I liked her. Bet H.W. wonāt be around too much longer.
Iām sorry that she had to endure the loss of a little child but I have little more to say about her.
She was the reason I tucked the pearls my parents gave me for my high school graduation into my bureau drawer and it was decades before I wore them again.
Stay classy, āMomā.
Rest in peace Babs.
That said, let the hagiography commence.
āWhy should we hear about body bags and deaths? Itās not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?ā
- Barbara Bush on her sonās War in Iraq.
Why should anybody waste their ābeautiful mindā on her?
My condolences to her children, her friends, and most especially to her husband. After so long together, Iām sure he feels like heās lost a large part of himself, over and above the loss of a lifetime partner and friend.
Any other thoughts on her good and bad attributes, Iāll keep to myself.
I have a hard time whipping up fake empathy for a woman of privilege, dying of natural causes after what she said about Katrina victims.
Barbara Bush Calls Evacuees Better Off
This is what gets me too.
I was happy when she came out as pro choice but yeah, she was still a woman of incredible privilege.
Iām sorry David Rakoff had to go ahead of her.
I prefer my Republicans cold and dry. Hey, the privileged get to play the game too.
A throwback, but not all throwbacks are bad. These days, even the East Coast old money swells look downright appealing.
RIP Babs. All in all, good work. That puritan work ethic has its virtues.
My sympathies and condolences to her husband, children, family, and friends. May she rest in peace.

RIP to a classy lady, an excellent 1st Lady, and a credit to her family and our nation.
It seems to be as American as apple pie where the privileged always get a better send-off. The outpouring of sympathy sometimes gets me scratching my head. More to come this week for sure.
My Dad was called to jury duty after he died -twice. The first time was within a month of his death. The second time was a couple of years later. I responded to the second request -on his behalf- and let the clerk know heād be thrilled to do his part but exhuming him may be a problem. Could he watch from the great beyond? There was a gasp on the other end at which point I laughed and asked that he be expunged from the rolls. Yeesh.l
