Barry gone, but corruption continues.
Rest In Peace Mr Barry,I caught an interview you gave a few months ago and from that I understood why a lot of folks were afraid of you.You knew what you were talking about and I can imagine you most of been a bulldog in your day in Washington DC
city hall.
Marion Barry.
A bad guy who was driven to do good. Flawed in profound ways but strong and courageous in others. People outside of the District might not understand him, might hate him or ridicule him, but he had a positive impact on his city.
RIP
This article: “While an undergraduate at LeMoyne College (now LeMoyne-Owen College), Barry picked up the nickname “Shep” in reference to Soviet propagandist Dmitri Shepilov for his ardent support of the civil rights movement. Barry began using Shepilov as his middle name.”
Wikipedia text added in 2009: “Barry attended LeMoyne College (now LeMoyne-Owen College), graduating in 1958. While at LeMoyne, his ardent support of the civil rights movement earned him the nickname “Shep”, in reference to Soviet propagandist Dmitri Shepilov. Barry began using Shepilov as his middle name.”
The wording there seems a bit too close to be coincidental…
Good riddance. A total embarrassment to the democratic process and the Democratic Party. The man reveled in his mismanagement and his misdeeds, and was the poster boy for Republicans who wanted to show why Democrats could not get anything right. He was just another blowhard who helped turn the word “activism” into a term for shooting your mouth off in fits of ignorant self-aggrandizement. He should have slithered away while he could have. Not a single person is better off for his having engaged in public service, such as that service was.
America’s Inversion of Rob Ford.

The 1994 NYT article that Wikipedia cites:
“While he was attending LeMoyne College in Memphis in the late 1950’s, he became such an active and loud supporter of the civil rights movement that his fraternity brothers began calling him “Shep,” a reference to Dmitri T. Shepilov, editor of Pravda and a leading Soviet propagandist in the Khrushchev years. Mr. Barry took the surname as his middle name.”
Basically, everyone rewords it just enough to avoid plagiarism charges. After all, it’s hard when you’re just reciting facts.
A modern day James Michael Curley or Jimmy Walker.
