I think you’re correct about Trump’s knowledge. I suspect that each had separate reasons to turn to Russia, though. I’ve noted elsewhere that Flynn was a fanatic on the subject of Muslims and Islam, a man who really did see this as a clash of civilizations, another world war. He may have turned to Russia as an ally in that war.
