The US still has a long way to go, that’s for sure. The countries able to pass universal acceptance laws are all unitary governments, without the ugly brought about by some of our state legislatures. Pretty much all the countries on this list are also considered borderline socialists by our own home-grown conservatives and their interpretation of civil rights.

Just nutso we’re still having this battle.

You forgot Canada on the list. Whenever we face a problem we see as insurmountable, we dig a little deeper and see Canada quickly and easily solved it years ago (Health care, social security, gay marriage … they are even in the middle of a doctor-assisted suicide debate). Maybe hockey and maple syrup is the trick.
