The rural Texas counties are going to welcome the CCA and GeoGroup with open arms for the jobs and money projected to be spent. Truth is, these companies make the locals pay for stuff and say that they will more than make up for what was spent, when in reality the tax breaks, low paying non union jobs and upfront costs to build the centers will bankrupt the locals. Sometimes I think that they deserve it for thinking they will get rich off of other people’s pain and suffering, but really it is the private prison industry that is responsible and should be put down for all the misery they create.

Central theme of trumplandia. What other president has deliberately and with malice…abused the most vulnerable people he could find just to add to their misery and pain and for no other reason than to piss off everybody. This is how trump is “governing” he thinks this is good and proper. Blow it up, get people ready to riot to stop it, make them get their guns and shoot each other. To him the Fergusson, MO rioting was a good thing. trump wants us to hate each other. And everyone else in the world.

You have my sincerest sympathy. I lost my cat last year after 21 years together, and he was incontinent towards the end. It’s very hard to say goodby to a dear friend.
Please don’t second guess yourself after she’s gone. There is rarely an obvious time to let your pet go, and it’s all too easy to wonder afterwards if you made the best choice. Remember that you made the best decision you could during a very difficult time.

I don’t find it problematic unless used to slut-shame her. Old sexy modeling shots have nothing to do with the weird jacket issue and I think you’re probably smart enough to know it.
I wish I thought the explanation was that innocent. I don’t think they’re clueless – I think they’re just deliberately cruel.

I read in the NYTimes that she didn’t wear the jacket when she got off the plane in McAllen; only getting on and off in DC. But it was at least as hot in DC; I know here in Richmond yesterday, the heat index was in the 90s. Washington is a muggy swamp for most of the summer – not the sort of weather in which you’d normally wear even a light jacket, much less a fairly substantial one. No, that jacket was no casual decision. It was a deliberate choice. I normally refrain from the carping that always seems to be done about a First Lady’s choice of hairstyle or attire, but in this case, I think Melania deserves every negative comment that comes her way.

No. This was no innocent mistake. The NY Times says she didn’t wear it in McAllen – only getting on AND OFF the plane in DC. And she wore it getting of the plane in DC even after she knew it had caused a stir. No, the wearing of this jacket was deliberate. I have no idea just exactly what the reason for it was, but whatever the reason, it was a terrible thing to do because of the message that, correctly or incorrectly, it was bound to send when it was seen.

Oh, I think she was very much aware as were her staff. First she left DC, which was just as hot and humid as the rest of the South in a long sleeve coat. 2nd, she is an ex fashion model whose very natural compels her to ALWAYS be aware of her appearance. And what about her staff? Surely someone there sees the abysmal optics here. No, the skeptic in me says this was designed to be a smoke and mirrors campaign by the White House to take the heat of of Donald. He has done this sort of thing many times before.

I tried to give her a chance, some of her (spox’s) statements had some not so subtle barbs, but this is just a big ole balagan.
After seeing more information, I’m sure you are correct. I was ready to give her the benefit of the doubt, but any opportunity for that flew out the window with subsequent views of putting it on only for boarding vehicles outside of the Potemkin facility she attended (I even gave her the benefit about the facility, figuring she isn’t the one who would schedule where to visit). Clearly I’ve been way too benevolent to her. No sympathy for her plight. As my grandmother would have said, “She made her bed, she can lie in it.”

My wife had Huntington’s. She died in 2008, but up until the end, she smoked pot and it made her feel much better, and also made her uncontrolled movements much less than they were when not smoking.
