I was wondering myself why she chose to speak up publicly. Was it to get through to her husband because she’s unable your do so privately? Was it to separate herself from his Administration for historical purposes? Was this a shot across the bow at Stephen Miller and Jeff Sessions? I guess we’ll see what happens.

I have no idea how much influence, if any, Melania has with Donald, but I think it’s a good thing because it keeps the issue dead center in the news, exposes fault lines within the Administration, and possibly puts pressure on Miller. If forced to beat a retreat, Trump won’t take kindly to it and will lash out at Miller. I sense a turning point.
