Discussion: Feinstein Says She'll Only Vote For Barr If He Agrees To Release Mueller Report

Barr is a partisan hack. He doesn’t need a 90-10 confirmation vote. He’s ok with 53-47 or even 50-50.

What Dems ought to be saying is ‘If there is even one whiff of you stepping on the scales for Trump the House will conduct an investigation with its own prosecutors and will make criminal referrals. There will be no tampering with prosecutorial discretion. There will be no actions on behalf of Trump. We are watching you. AGs have gone to jail before. Ask yourself if you want to be the next one…Release the damn report, unredacted.’

So why does Feinstein tie her yes vote to one promise?

Um, what about the part where he claims complete ignorance of various well-known, well-settled provisions of the Constitution? Um, maybe you shouldn’t vote for this fool at all, Senator?

It’s not a bad offer on its face but it assumes that Barr would care about getting her vote.

Because it’s safe cover. In his confirmation hearing Barr hedged and qualified his position on releasing the report and any subsequent promise from him is worthless.

Constitutional arguments are lost on most voters, especially conservatives whose knowledge ends at religious freedom and guns. As Obama correctly noted, “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion.” Anything beyond that is elitist.

This is why Feinstein should have retired. “Only if” is the wrong, wrong, wrong answer. It is not business as usual, and she STILL doesn’t get that.

I believe the Kenneth Starr report was a best seller. There’s no reason this one shouldn’t receive the same treatment.

And think of the movie rights!

Classic example of the empty gesture…

He does not need her vote and he won’t release it…

Why would anyone believe anything a Trumpy appointee would say or promise?

I still think that even if Dotard and his minions try to suppress, change, or redact the hell out of the Mueller report, there are enough folks in DC (including 2020 nervous Republicans) who want to see Dotard bounced, that leaked copies of the report will spring up like tulips in the spring.

“Since Republicans control the Senate, Barr likely doesn’t need Feinstein’s vote.”

Yup, the fix, she is in.

Still no reason to give him a pass. Since the fix is in, then there’s absolutely no reason for the Dems not to oppose this assclown unanimously. He’s a completely unqualified, political hack.

So you’re saying they’re going to pass the Barr?

Don’t fall for it, Dianne.

He’ll say anything and then deny it later, like most of the administration.

It would appear that the GOP has enough votes to confirm, with or without her, right?

So…

If Barr totes agrees to release the Mueller report, and then he gets confirmed, and then refuses to release the report, the consequences would be…

Yes. That’s why the better move from Dems is to say ‘Look, I could randomly pull 10 lawyers off K, L or M streets right now who would know more about the Constitution and issues facing the DOJ than you do. You’re a hack. If you so much as take 1 phone call from Trump or a designated cutout, or do anything to Mueller or any other USAO investigating/prosecuting the #trumprussia matter, you’re headed to jail and disbarment.’

Only a rhetorical move to highlight that he won’t make that promise.

It depends on whether Mueller is a patriot or a Pollyanna like Comey.
