Terrorism, impure and simple.
I donāt know, this was planned and has been in the works for some time. Probably by someone āsmarterā than TRussia or Miller or any of those goons. I cannot believe TRussia or his lick-spittles can plan and carry out much of anything but a trip to McDonaldsā. We know TRussia is under Putinās thumb, and heās probably groveling at the feet of a lot of US Billionaire Corporations.
They want Fascism. They almost achieved it in the 30ās, but Roosevelt stopped them. There is no Roosevelt today. Obama was a wet firecracker.
Personally, I think the whole point of implementing this policy was to force congressional Democrats to fund Trumpās border wall. When the Nazi-in-Chief said words to the effect that āthis is all the Democrats fault; they could stop this by changing the lawā but steadfastly refuses to approve any changes to immigration law that donāt fully fund his border wall, he announced the real purpose of this policy. The pain and suffering caused is just icing on the cake for the most sadistic among his henchmen and supporters.
This was terrorism: The infliction of gratuitous pain and suffering in pursuit of political goals. The administration admitted as much when the policy was withdrawn, not because of the pain and suffering of those affected, but because of the āterrible opticsā for the administration.
This is terrific news for the children and their families.
While I could see the rancid SCOTUS majority blocking this order on purely legal grounds, I think the judgeās emphasis on the administrationās failure to keep track of the children and failure to provide communication between the children and the parents will give them pause. There are very young children involved here, and the separation is extremely traumatic no matter what conditions they are currently held in.
Trump will see this as a reason to redefine or ignore due process and basically catapult immigrants back across the border, but that wonāt be something all five of the conservative majority could allow on legal grounds (Alito and Thomas would be fine with it, and Gorsuch might determine it is okay, because several precedents were decided incorrectly by ālesser mindsā).
One of the salient characteristics of being a judge is that people have to do what you say or you can make worse things happen to them than sternly worded letters.
The rock should be small, tippy, and vulnerable to rising sea levels.
FIFY.
God and your quaint Christian teachings can just go to hell. American government first.
Oh, and those āunfunded mandatesā Republican states-righters were so indignant aboutā¦?
The Republican leadership is totally on board with them now. Pay up!
I got a buddy in real estate who can get you a good deal on a warehouse. You just need a little something to, you know, grease the wheels.
Kelly was talking about the separations as a deterrent back in 2017. These are not spontaneous acts of hatred but well orchestrated demonstrations of terrorism, sans the planning to pull it back together after they blew it all up.
Half baked was full on good enough for these shit stains.
waiting to see scotus reverse this oneā¦
I heard about this decision on my morning commute when my local DJ, Rob Timm of WRNR, summarized it - and quoted that very passage, verbatim.
āPeople as things, thatās where it starts.ā - Terry Pratchett, Carpe Jugulum
Human rights violation whatever you call it. But of course we all know what Trump et al thinks of the UN. Iād like to see Haley sputter when charged with that. Can Mexico et al bring charges?
Avenattiās idea, a single staging area for every separated family. may now be the best option for everyoneā¦ except for all the haters who love seeing children cry.
Trumpās lowest order of supporter showed their true colors on this issue.
So did his closest minions.
Anyone who thinks this wonāt end up costing us all millions in lawsuits and lost respect as a world refuge for the lost and indigent isnāt paying attention. The anguish it has already spawned is palpable, for anyone with a conscience and a patriotās heart.
Can Supreme Court justices be forced to resign?.
They will sleep fine in the assurance that judges have no divisions, and thus no authority over Dear Leaders minions.
I wouldnāt put it past them but for pityās sake donāt give them ideas.
This is torture of a different order than GWB inflictedāworse because these children are, well, children. And as the judge says, in the Trump adminās eyes they donāt even rise to the level of property. They are being kidnapped, to āsend a messageā or something to that effect. Ironic that GWB appointee makes the judgement here.
Now, how many will not be returned, I wonder, either through incompetence or indifference?
Wish that fit on a bumperstickerā¦ but otherwise, it is about as concise and unfortunately accurate as anything Iāve read about the issue, anywhere.
When the New Blue Wave (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proved it isnāt just blue, it IS NEW!) is done steamrolling these recalcitrant Rās, we need to pressure the conservative Supreme Court judges to resign, Gorsuch in particular. Heās our first ever FAKE JUSTICE.
Once Trumpās true colors are fully exposed, Gorsuch can only save his dignity, what is left of it, by resigning. He may not be one himself, but he represents one of the biggest judicial disgraces in our nationās history, maybe the worstā¦ especially looking at the 5-4 decisions now coming from the court.
Not at all OT, I have to say, with real goosebumps, that Justice Sotomayor won my undying admiration and respect with her blistering dissent.
Rachel read most of it aloud (that was a treat, you could hear the truth and justice in her voice) and made me button-busting proud of our latino justice, and of Obama for choosing her in the first place.
She just joined my personal list of True American Heroes, she and Barbara Boxer both faced-off the old boys in historic fashion and we should never forget it.
She gives us hope, one of those holdovers from the Obama era that we all miss so badly. And thereās so little hope around these days.
That will change in November.
Big Time.
Iām old enough to remember when the Republicans considered themselves the āpro-familyā party, rather than the āweāre OK with gratuitously ripping families apartā party.
OK, that would mean Iām old enough to start elementary school. But you get the idea.
