The deputy commissioner was quoted in the letter replying that GSA officials who manage contracts “are independent, base their decisions on the laws and regulations governing the contracts they oversee, and would not change their positions based on political influence.” UNTIL NOW

I think if he really, really wanted to be a dictator, he would sell the damn hotel and walk away. Because four-fifths of the country would bring it up every time anyone complained about any subsequent thing he did. “If he was so corrupt then why would he…” and so forth. I’m scared already, don’t get me wrong. But if he did that I think it would be more disquieting still.
Deciding what’s more important to him – ownership interest or the Presidency…being Prez just ain’t important enough to this guy. This stuff is going to take him down. It’s not just wishful thinking. Reality intrudes.
He’ll refuse. The GSA will sue, and he’ll ignore the suit, while his representatives say the issue is not important, and we shouldn’t be distracted by partisan attacks on Trump.
Why not? You think the Trump administration will go after him? Or Jason Chaffetz?

Putting aside the moral and ethical arguments about Trump’s COIs, it’s just plain terrible political strategy on Trump’s part. If he doesn’t clear these up by divesting, he will be playing defense on multiple fronts, each and every day of his presidency. That’s not a winning political footing. If you are on defense all the time, you are losing.
The question will be whether the Dems have the capacity and stamina to sustain attacks on all these fronts and whether the citizenry will have the awareness and attention span to get and stay upset about these COIs.
