I haven’t seen the democratic socialist one, but yup, VA has now elected it’s first transgendered state legislator.
DAVID WASSERMAN 8:02 PM
Breaking: Danica Roem, a Democrat, has defeated 26-year Del. Bob Marshall, a Republican, in House District 13, becoming the first transgender person elected to Virginia’s state legislature.
Making it even sweeter, the Republican that got beat was an author of an anti-transgender “bathroom bill” in VA.
Edit: @ more than 75 % in he’s now up more than 6 %
@ 78 % its near a 7 % kick in the ass for Ed.
@ 80 % it’s now a 7 % spread. In today’s political landscape this qualifies as a thrashing.
And AP just called NJ for the Democrat.
Seems Ed Gillespie, formerly a respected Republican establishment guy, ran a new kind of race ( trumpist ) and won the title of racist for life. And Governor never.
I voted today. My vote has no national implications. Too much is made of local elections. No one who cast a ballot for my town supervisor or county executive had Trump in mind. Probably most Virginia voters cast a ballot based on the issues affecting the state.
On the other hand, the fact that 1/2 the college educated whites in Va pulled the lever for the guy running as a neo-Confederate is just embarrassing. As many of us know, it’s not just the hillbillies.
You have to give Tom Perez credit. He absolutely predicted this last night on Chris Hayes’ show: especially with his emphasis on the down ballot races.
Just a couple of days of so we had a debate on this board about whether democrats were too incompetent or disorganized (or both) to win. I hope that argument goes away for a while – at least until after the mid-terms.
Nice to see that Trump’s magic political pixie dust can have such a positive effect on the sane part of the electorate.
