I’ve always wondered if Rise Above named themselves after the Black Flag song of the same name. Rollins would be mortified if true, but it’s just the kind of hard sound these guys would go nutso for. “We are tired of your abuse/try to stop us, it’s no use”.

As a punk for 30 + years I think it’s kind of obvious. Black Flag really got rolling in Huntington Beach in their early days.

I am in NO WAY saying they condoned this then or would now, but it’s easy to draw a pretty straight line.

As a Slater Slum veteran of HB I have to say it was more Social D then black flag and not all that white. Always felt it was the white frat boys
who showed up at the early BF shows, dog knows where they came from. But then again it was a long time ago

RAM is also the name of the non profit medical care organization Remote area medicine. They perform great work going to rural areas providing the poor and working class health services.
