Discussion: Fate Of Trump Foundation Could Be Decided At Thursday Hearing

With a penalty befitting treason…

Y’all know this is a civil case, right? The only way someone goes to jail is if they maneouver themselves into a contempt of court situation (calling baghdad rudy), or if the civiil case lays out a roadmap that leads to federal indictments (tax evasion, maybe).

The airing of dirty laundry and crippling the trumplings’ liquidity is going to be fun, but no expectations of jail for at least a couple years.

It should have been built on quicksand.

Both seem likely, were this to go to trial.

ETA: Particularly anything involving tax evasion.

Okay, I’m not a lawyer, but this defense strikes me as absurd. How could a judge possibly take this seriously?

In an August motion to dismiss the suit, Futerfas adopted Trump’s line about the investigation: it is the meritless product of “pervasive bias” by former New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

“The NYAG —the head of the entity that brought this Petition—solicited financial donations to his own campaign for re-election based on his promise to ‘lead the resistance’ and attack the President and his policies, describing the President as out to ‘hurt’ New Yorkers. The NYAG, as an entity, has issued scores of press releases trumpeting its fight against the President as evidence of its reason d’etre [sic] and its success as an agency,” the filing reads.

Schneiderman’s motivation for bringing the case, even if you accept this rather biased version of events, has absolutely nothing at all to do with the merits of the case.
