Discussion: ExxonMobil CEO Has Cozy Relationship With Russia, Complicated Climate Record

Is the cozy relationship with Russia enough to make some GOP Senators vote ‘no’ on confirmation? Need at least 3 assuming all Democrats vote ‘no’.

Who might be GOP ‘no’ votes? Which GOP senators have strong anti-Russian leanings? Here’s my speculation of possible no votes:

  1. John McCain?
  2. Lindsey Graham?
  3. Jeff Flake?
  4. Mike Lee?
  5. Rand Paul?
  6. Ben Sasse? He seems to be getting on the Trump train.
  7. Susan Collins?
  8. Lisa Murkowski?

Who am I leaving off that is known to have strong anti-Russian feelings? Or has publicly expressed concerns about Putin et al?

I guess McCain/Graham will be the tell on all the foreign policy/Intel/State Department picks. If they signal ‘no’ votes the pick would be in trouble but if they appear on board, the pick should have smooth sailing. No?

Good article by Mark Sumner.

I wonder how the lawsuit against Exxon for defrauding its shareholders by denying the effects of climate change is going?

Is Tillerson going to be sending out a tweet stating Exxon is going to "settle the lawsuit for a small fraction of the potential award because as President Secretary of State I have to focus on our country”?

Followed by a second tweet that says “The ONLY bad thing about winning the Presidency being appointed Secretary of State is that I did not have the time to go through a long but winning trial on Trump U shareholder fraud lawsuit. Too bad!”?
