OSU’s athletic dep’t has a long sordid history, mostly with football.
It just placed its famed head coach, Urban Meyer, on paid leave as it investigates whether he knew about the alleged spousal abuse by one of his assistants. Meyer says no. A reporter claims he has text messages proving Meyer knew in 2015 and did nothing. That could end his coaching career.
As for Jordan, the shit’s piling up fast. Ryan ought to ask for his resignation…no, I’m not holding my breath.
So…Jordon is a MUCH bigger douche than I thought. Digging into people’s backgrounds and intimidation? Wow. Are those your vaunted conservative values Jimmy?
Politics are so partisan that a certain amount of vilification of the “other side” always happens - either expressly or in our minds. Nonetheless, I did believe at one time that the majority of those in public service had integrity and those that didn’t, at least, felt shame enough to resign when caught. I don’t believe that anymore of the GOP. Rather, they are a bunch of grade school boys who will lie to the bitter end to try and avoid detention. Sad.
100+ former students have said they were abused by Strauss. The inquiry has now expanded to include high-school age boys.
My hometown had a Boy Scout leader/elementary school gym teacher who was extremely popular. Every once in a while a complaint would pop up. The school district, Boy Scouts, and local police buried them and tried to claim they didn’t know (ironically, a school superintendent’s own son was one of the alleged victims). It all came out in the open right before the guy’s death a few years back. He got away with it for more than four decades because our institutions’ priorities were elsewhere.
YEAH, the inexplicable part is what keeps gnawing at me. Why, at the time, before he was remotely famous, did Jordan keep waving off his comrades’ pleas and outrage. Why? Have any of you read a theory of what was going on at the time?
My guess is that he was ambitious and didn’t want to make a reputation as a troublemaker. So he showed a slightly anti-molestation face to other wrestlers and then went along with the general enabling. (My analogy is a friend in the late 80s who was a witness in a sexual harassment complaint at a university and was blackballed from her department…)
As hard as it is to say this because of the people involved and how everything went down, Al Franken is a far better human being than Jimmy Jordan. We can all second guess Al’s wisdom in resigning from office, but he set a very good example for others to follow.
This scandal cesspool is beginning to stink and look like a very troubling and vast criminal conspiracy among several conservative christian sexual predators. It appears that the conspirators are now beginning to engage in witness tampering and intimidation.
