Ted Cruz
It’s easy to underestimate Cruz – but he isn’t actually crazy, he just acts crazy because that’s what sells in today’s Republican Party. If sane sold, he would be sane.
Dan… I’m not sure about that.
Given the inherent racism on the right, having Carson at the top would keep at least 10% of the right home (my guess) election day leading to an even larger landslide than I’d like to think we’ll see already. Without even factoring in how much of a lunatic he is (beyond the basic/required RWNJ lunacy).
That IS NOT Ben Carson’s photo on that ad!!!
Many people have told Dr. Carson he could be president. Now he will quit the race. He will write in future books that he turned down the offer to be president (all expenses paid, mind you) so that he could become an inspirational speaker and prank-victim-extraordinaire.
Don’t forget his side-gig as leading egyptologist studying pyramid design. Surely he’ll continue to be a major contributor to the field.
This might possibly be your best comment ever. Here’s your $10!
I just wish we could stop being so cocksure of ourselves.
Given what I am witnessing, I am not convinced he couldn’t get elected.
Just ask Plucky.
This is the best way to handle Ben Carson, refuse to even engage. Be dismissive. If there is one thing Ben Carson can’t stand it is being dismissed. Ben should throw an epic tantrum, storm off the debate stage and quit the race. That way he could salvage the stupid…er…evangelical grift and beat the victim drum at the same time.
2016 is going to be tough, but the only candidates I think are even less likely to win the GOP nomination than Carson are Huckabee, Jindal, and Graham.
Just remember that at this point in the last GOP presidential primary season, Romney wasn’t faring all that well.
Anything can happen. And probably will.
I’m aware. I was also predicting Romney to take the nomination at this point in 2012, and I was not alone in that prediction. A lot can happen, but the basic dynamics are pretty well-known. Rubio’s the closest thing to a Romney of this cycle.
No, no, no, absolutely not. You completely misunderstand the nature of modern racism. Old timey racists who are ideologically committed both to the notion of the inherent inferiority of the black race and believe that that inferiority demands white supremacy are rare. Instead, today’s racists are almost entirely of the “I’m not racist, but . . .” variety. Most of them do believe that racism is shameful and wrong, but they define racism as a thing they’re not. For them, if they’re not old-timey Klansmen, they’re not racist.
At some level, most of them do harbor a belief that black people are genetically inferior, but most of them sublimate it, with the result that crazy, mutually contradictory things are constantly flying out of their mouths and zooming around in their heads. They believe that the reason blacks have any problems is because they stubbornly refuse to act like white people and their refusal to act like white people is likely proof of their genetic inferio. . . oops, no wait, I don’t believe that because I’m not racist! You know who is racist? Those People, that’s who! And, of course, at some level, they also accept the “Bell Curve” reasoning that acknowledges that some black people at the tale end probably are smarter than some white people, though, of course, the smartest black person could never be as smart as the smartest white person . . . dohp! Wait, that sounded racist and I’m not racist!
Where yesterday’s racists demanded white privilege, today’s racists deny its existence, and deny it more vociferously and angrily the more threatened it becomes. Indeed, anytime they’re put into a position of genuine equality, they scream “racism.”
And, for these modern racists, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, they love more than a black man who says what they say, validates their most deeply hidden beliefs and has lived a life that confirms their belief that we’re a merit based society where anyone can succeed if they just apply themselves. Which, sadly, Those People just won’t do. Because they’re genetically infer . . . dohp! No wait, we don’t believe that!
Racists won’t reject Ben. They’re his base.
(Though you’ll notice that the real, old-fashioned ideological white supremicist Klan and Nazi type racists are enthusiastic backers of Trump, who they believe–quite rightly–is opening up a political space for their message that hasn’t existed for a long time.)
Fo’ Shurkle, ma Nurkle!

The best part is that’s still more thought than he gave to Huckabee, Christie and…Santorum? Graham? Whoever those other cats are.
I hate to pick on you, because I don’t want your wrath ever directed at me, but it’s “LibtaRd.” I know, I know; time flies, but only the nose can run.
I remember thinking something similar about W–not a chance that buffoon could ever win–I guess we know how that turned out.
