Discussion: Ex-GOP Candidate To Plead Guilty After Allegedly Bilking Donors For Cigars, Escorts

How about John Harris Asst. US Attorney for Eastern NC?

I always liked Barney Frank’s take down of Newt Gingrich:

Even today’s press conference to announce his retirement, Frank still took a second to say that he’d love to debate the Defense of Marriage Act with thrice-wedded GOP Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich because, “I think he is an ideal opponent for us when we talk about who it is
that is threatening the sanctity of marriage.”

Probably a three way.

I must be missing something here… the headline implies that this guy got in trouble for cigars and hookers but the body of the article has this throwaway line:

per the filing. Taub “converted” more than $1,000,000 of the money raised “to personal use,”

I think that the lede is buried here.

YES!

Next question.

The ® used to stand for REPUBLICAN, now it stands for RUSSIAN.

I thought that Justice Robert’s had ruled in the Governor Forced Transvaginal Ultrasound case that bribery with suitcases of cash, Rolexes, expensive cars and vacations was completely constitutional and legal for christian conservatives and Republicans? What happened to rule of law? Why is this conservative candidate being persecuted for escorts, cigars and gifts?

Donating money to a political candidate should be no different from investing in the stock market or giving money to charity. There should be no guarantee as to what happens with the money. Preshtident Skanky-Manslut used donations to his charity to pay for Don Jr’s boy scout fees, for supersize self-portraits and for trophy First Lady Ivanka’s implants and for Cuck Kushner’s self-fellatio lessons. This is not stealing. It is Free Speech and Liberty for all.

It is pleasant for me to remember that these people will thieve from their own kind as well as the nation.

why is this man not employed as part of 45* 's inner circle?

Why do Republicans have to fork out so much money for sex? I suspect it’s because no one would otherwise sleep with them.

yes, I feel this took one more “crisis pregnancy testing van” off the streets

Which is funnier: that he spend mega-donor $ on “escorts” or that he ran a Congressional race as a Republican in Rhode Island?

Well, now. An organization called “Keeping Ohio in Republican Control” (and the intent of the voters be damned). Great acronym there, guys. Put a KORC in it.

You can make more money from a flop than a hit…

Completely agree. It could easily have been fixed: Taub, R, opponent of Dem C, will plead guilty .,
That’s the lead!

TBH I thought the scandal would be if the R didn’t spend the dough on booze, blow and prostitutes. :smirk:

Small fish, same school.

Hmm. $1.6M in, about 30K left. At least he’s efficient at spending.

Also, just worth noting, the actual bank account numbers were non-redacted in the plea deal. Wondering if someone in the know already has the ACH numbers.

Third note - there had to be at least a couple of others involved in this scam. Are they being charged?

Mmmmm…he spent wads of $$$ on “escorts”, eh?

Male or Female? (or both?)

Is there anyone in the GOP that didn’t play fast and loose with the rules while finding ways to bilk donors? That seems to be standard operating procedure these days.
