If by “right” you mean “blaming victims of sexual assault instead of the perpetrators”.

Also, it’s glib to say that a woman can prevent a sexual assault with a punch on the nose.

In which case you are in desperate need of a Charles Atlas do-over.

Yeah, those crazy gals at Jezebel just got a little overheated. But you know how irrational women can be…

Since he explicitly goes after victim blaming, and differentiates his position from that, it is hard to fault him, except for that word “misbehave”. However even that has a pro-woman interpretation - the punch should come well before the assault, not during it.

As for the stupid, stupid drinking culture of colleges, what rational person could object to pointing out the obvious - if you are stupid enough to participate in it, you don’t deserve to be a victim, but you certainly increase your odds. If being in charge of your own life and your own body isn’t a feminist message, then I don’t want any part of feminism. Fortunately it is only a special brand of stupid feminism that sees every call for women to be prepared to defend themselves as some kind of perverse blame shifting. Most of us see right through that political nonsense.

It’s not “perverse blame shifting” at all: it’s focusing on the notion that the attention should be on what women should do to protect themselves when attention belongs on a culture in which women constantly feel the need to protect themselves.

“the punch should come well before the assault…”

I think the point is that there should be no need for a punch, whether it’s before or during anything.

Yeah college girls, listen up: Want to not get assaulted? Simple, just stop having fun! And while you’re at it, wear really baggy clothes and gain a ton of weight so the guys pass you up. Maybe stop using makeup. Hell, just maybe stop going to college altogether. Clearly this is your fault, and your actions are to blame. Guys are always sexual assaulting and it’s not their fault when you walk into them while they’re doing it.

Without making the victims responsible for what happens, one of the groups that have to be trained not to drink in excess are women…

If women are “one of the groups,” how many other “groups” does this science genius imagine there are?

“Without making the victims responsible for what happens, one of the groups that have to be trained not to drink in excess are women. They need to be in a position to punch the guys in the nose if they misbehave,” Dr. Stephen Joel Trachtenberg said on The Diane Rehm Show during a discussion on fraternities and sororities."

Sir, you are still making the VICTIM responsible for the behavior of the attacker, don’t you see that? Your reasoning is exactly like a Pakistani honor killing: man attacks and rapes a woman, the family then kills the victim for having the temerity to get raped as if the attack is her fault. Yes a woman should punch an uppity man in the nose! Rightfully so. but the man needs to be taught at an early age (and repeatedly … constantly if necessary) that attacking or abusing someone especially a woman is wrong. it’s not a difficult concept.

He clearly said that the woman is at fault if she gets attacked. So I must disagree. No, he isn’t right.

Are you nuts???

I just noticed this. Yikes!
