I think more accurately, it’s probably “…I believe I do not recall…” For the southern GOP (and the elf in particular) the context is almost always cast as “belief”, rather than a simple statement of fact. It’s a handy, built-in disclaimer for all things ‘declared’.

That would be interesting. Noting that it’s hard for Trump to say anything negative about his fellow ‘pussy-grabbing predator’ Moore, because to do so would clearly be the height of hypocrisy.

If Trump so much as suggests that Moore should withdraw due to a handful of very damning allegations, that would also call Trump’s presidential legitimacy into question, since he had something like 20 women come forward with allegations.
