Discussion: Establishment GOP Breathes Collective Sigh Of Relief After Moore Loss

“Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are.”

I hate to break it to establishment Guardians Of Predators but the RNC’s support of Moore, however schizophrenic, will not soon be forgotten. They can plug their ears and scream “la la la la” all they want, but the bullet they think they’ve dodged caused more than a flesh wound. With any luck it’ll finally prove fatal.

Listen up, Rethugliklans: We know who you are. We know what you stand for.

Oh please. Establishment isn’t relieved. Either way (win or loss) they’d have found some way to spin it. McConnell and his wishy washy ass had said that the AL voters would decide. If Moore had won, it would be business as usual like it always is.

Allies of Bannon, who declared war on the party’s establishment after leaving the White House earlier in the year, dismissed the loss as little more than a temporary setback that would soon be forgotten. Republicans cheering Moore’s loss, they said, would simply enrage Trump’s most loyal supporters nationwide, who already suspected some Republican leaders were trying to undermine the president’s agenda

They’re stomping on the very base they need to turn out for their candidates in the general election in 2018,” said Andy Surabian, a senior adviser to the Bannon-backed Great America PAC. He contended that “the average Republican voter across the country is pointing their finger at Mitch McConnell and the Republican establishment.”

Here’s the thing: trump had the opportunity to expand his base. Instead, he’s playing to the racists, the sexists , and the homophobes. A true leader would be trying to govern ALL instead of a select few. The people that are speaking on behalf of trump arent helping with their stupid threats. They’re only alienating everyone else.

And I love how trumps base is so mighty and so powerful that they couldn’t even help Moore win in one of the reddest, most REPUBLICAN state. I think we need to stop acting like they are so solid and important and that we need to be extra super nice and understand them. They can officially fuck off.

O/T - here is what ‘the Establsihment’ should be worried about today:

The Intel briefings are written to avoid upsetting Trump. The President get’s doctored reports not based on getting the most vital information to the Commander in Chief to keep the country safe - but instead based on how not to set off a petulant firestorm during the briefing.

Establishment Republicans? Whose that? There used to be a group called that, but they went the way of the passenger pigeon and the great auk.

The establishment GOP has been in denial about what they are for years. They are just Trump with a suit and business like manners. Ed Gillespie is a perfect example. He was interviewed on Axelrod’s show and only grudgingly realized that it is impossible to thread the needle between Trump and a hypothetical establishment Republican. What these guys never get, because it’s not in their interests to do so, that their anti-safety net, pro-corporate policies are outside the mainstream of American thought and that they’ve used racism and bigotry as a way to keep a coalition together. A lot of voters are saying that’s not acceptable anymore and it should never have been acceptable in the first place.

Turtle: We are a party of Family Values and Sexual Assaulters. We are not liberals who support womanizing and Pedophilia.

oh AP - a “semi-humbled” Donald Trump? I think the word you’re looking for is truculent

and it’s interesting that senator shelby is concerned about the GOP’s having a radioactive candidate when they are sitting in the rod cooling tank and noticing that their water levels are dropping and their geiger counters are crackling non-stop as they’re grouped around 45*

every time there’s an election, the gop says they will learn and try and reach out - and every election they never do

they don’t need to run flawless candidates and perfect campaigns - they need to get a platform that is not inimical to the well-being of the electorate
