Part of the pathway back from the deep woods of exile for the Democratic Party must be a clean, clear statement about who owns them, and the Party’s politics as usual. This action would not stop any average Democrat or member of any Liberal organization from making meaningful political contributions. It seems to me that one President or other amassed a good deal of money from average folks giving $5 and $10 at a time. I think that President’s name is Obama, if memory serves.
Actions like this help to remove the “pay to play” taint that touches every bit of policy made inside the Beltway.
There is an old joke about one fellow asking another political hack in Washington how rich he aspired to be. The second fellow considered the question for a moment, and then answered brightly: “Rich enough to afford my own Congressmen.”
The perception that Democratic Party “Leadership” live in a bubble of money cut off from the average American played a great and poisonous part in giving the whole world another clod as President. If that image is ever to be altered, in fact, or in perception, the influence of money from K Street must be reduced or removed from politics. It will be made up for by those who see and return to a political party founded not on caviar and rubber chicken, but sustained instead by chicken sandwiches and coffee.
I guess I was too hard on Perez, I think because he’s all of the sudden in contention for the DNC just cuz Obama said. Perez would be a great Governor or congressman, someone who the DNC should be trying to get elected, but lets face it, he’s beltway.
Can we finish with this Ellison thing? Past associations with the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan, despite half-hearted and not quite true disclaimers, are disqualifying.
Ellison is one of the few people who could make the DNC more worthless than it is now.
Well, this is pretty much a Bernie people thing, isn’t it? Who else gives a rat’s patoot about who the DNC chairman is right now?
Bernie did something good today in the Senate–using a Trump tweet as a prop on the Senate floor in defence of the ACA–but where is his big revolution?
I have not heard word one from “Our Revolution” about marching on Washington.
