Discussion: Elizabeth Warren Knocks Donald Trump In Commencement Speech

Uhhh…Tom?

I am very glad that this Massachusetts fireball is on the short list for Vice President.

May I inject a little reality into the notion of Warren being selected and agreeing to become the VP? A special election would have to be held in MA no later than 160 days (that’s the law) after the seat is vacated and the last time a special election was held was after Ted Kennedy died in office. Scott Brown won. We were stuck with him and the cluelessness he represented for two years.

We may yet hear talk of Clinton selecting a Latino male from either Texas or California, which would be a terrific strategy to bring more Latinos into voting booths in this season of unprecedentedly high Latino voter registration.

@fiftygigs And there is a 50% chance he’ll get elected.

Maybe something a little smaller than that.

I check a prediction market website occasionally, you know, high rollers with lots of money laying bets on sure things, and the statistics currently are that the Democrat will beat the repub by 71% to his 29%. Senate predictions look just favorable: D61%, R40%

Not to mention that as much as I am ready for it, I don’t think this country is ready for an all-female ticket. Ugly truth. Warren needs to hold to Ted’s commitment and legacy. Her time will come, but not now. She is doing great work where she is.

This is all great and Elizabeth Warren is a true Democrat fighting for Democratic causes…however what is truly needed is for the congress to be controlled by people who actually have a grasp on reality! If we win the Presidency that’s great but the real fight has to be for the congress. We need to kick McConnel, Cornyn, Sessions, et el.and Ryan so far down the steps of the capital that it will take them an hour to get back to their very small and diminished offices with no private bathrooms. Unless we have a congress willing to work with a democratic president all we will get is bragging rights…“We won the Presidency…na na na na na…” That’s it! If if we don’t get at least the Senate we get four or eight more years of the same nonsense we have had to endure for the last 6 years… And then the next battle is to get the states back from the loony tunes…i.e Kansas, Florida, Wisconsin, Maine…etc.

This country is not ready for an all female ticket despite some female pols saying glibly we’ve always had single sex slates. Ha ha. :unamused: Yes, Warren does embody much of Kennedy’s work and can forward his legacy just by staying and fighting.

I think the Clinton campaign is downplaying the Castro pick on purpose…so it will cause more flash when its announced.

That being put aside for a moment, Warren is perhaps the worst possible choice I hear bantered around as Hillary’s running mate.

The seat does get turned republican until a special election…which is hardly a given we win it back in a way off year special election.

Warren’s progressives advocacy stops immediately as soon as she becomes VP. Her role and job then require her to be the loudest advocate for all things the Hillary administration wants. No VP gets to push their own agenda counter to the President’s. Senators do, especially Senators that are rising powers.

Getting all giddy because she says sharp things about Trump is incredibly short sighted. Being a VP is a 4-8 year job, not a 4 month job. Nor is there anything saying that only the VP can be the bulldog. I expect we are going to see all sorts of people advocating strongly for Hillary…including other Senators as well as the VP.

Making Warren a VP effectively ends her political career. In 8 years, the soonest she would be able to run, she would face a serious question concerning her age. So all the on the job training of how the executive branch works…is lost.

Finally, every election since 1988 has pitted an older/younger combination against the same or against a younger/younger combination. That’s not going to change in a year where the electorate on both sides is pretty hopped up on change. Hillary is going to be more concerned with reaching young voters than reaching progressive voters…and quite frankly, a Warren selection probably doesn’t reach any of the people in either group that are most resistant to her. Go take a look at Warren’s facebook page and just see how many BernieBros have been attacking her for being a sell out already. Signing on as Hillary’s VP isn’t going to change their views one iota.

We’ve talked about a Warren pick before, and it makes no sense at all. I would agree that a Castro pick is being downplayed as might be a Becerra pick. Sadly, we’re looking for a hero(ine) to save us from ourselves and our lack of belief in our own strengths in winning an election that is hers to lose.

I agree completely about Warren, but I still wouldn’t be surprised if Trump chose Gingrich, purely for the 24/7 flattery from the Newtser.

Or he could skew a bit younger and pick Mark Fuhrman, a closer ideological and stylistic match.

Naa, as much as Newt wants it, he isn’t being seriously considered for a couple of really big reasons.

Because he wants it, and is too much of a showboat himself. Trump isn’t interested in anyone that is going to try to upstage him at every turn.

Newt has ideological leanings, Trump doesn’t. Combined with the above, that’s a disaster for Trump personally…and its a struggle he has no desire in entering into.

And perhaps biggest of all…in most eyes, including Trump’s, Newt in the end lost his war with the Clintons. Hell, he was even praising Bill as a great President in the 2008 primaries. Trump doesn’t want a loser that lost to his competition on his ticket. That would just be sad!

I’m not. I am full of confidence that Hillary is going to beat the pants off of Trump. Which is another reason I don’t see her making a VP decision out of weakness, but rather, out of strength.

And when you get right down to it ,the “Warren VP” discussion is based on the idea that Hillary is too weak to in this on her own, and there is no way that progressives can get on board unless she surrenders everything she is running for to the BernieBros #2 pick. Its a silly notion.

The Warren for VP discussion is like the end of a love affair, sadness, regret, wanting a do over, and imagining the possibilities of a reciprocal relationship. Most people know by now I’ve never waivered on HRC’s prospects, but to realize she first must go up against someone who’s come this far on bombast alone must make her shake her head at the grotesqueness of it all.

I’ve seen a couple of reports that Drumpf’s people are looking at Joni “Pig-cutter” Ernst and Jan “Sun-dried” Brewer for his Veep. If it comes down to those two, Drumpf is going to go for the Pig-cutter. She’s younger and she’s way more attractive than Brewer, and those are the things that carry weight with Drumpf.

I think both have already said they aren’t interested…publicly.

Which is getting to be a real problem for Trump…the sheer number of people who are saying “Nope…not interested”.

It is a problem for Drumpf, but someone’s going to have stand up and take one for the GOPTeam.

I hear Denny Hastert isn’t doing much these days.

Talking pure probability. There’s only two possible outcomes.
