No but that sounds like a smashing idea. I can think of so many reasons why I’d like to be occupied by Canada.
but stupid in Idaho is alive and well.
The district superintendent apologized Friday morning, saying the racist, xenophobic Idaho teachers used “poor judgment.”
¡Edición importante!
Fun Fact: That school district is 30% 9.5% Hispanic.
So it’s only insulting, confusing and degrading to only one-in-10 of their elementary-age students.

BTW: The Idaho-Statesman is a great newpaper.
Whoa, so real racism as opposed to fantasy racism.
too much texting, too much social media brainwashing of the new generation.
The media should triple filter the president because he’s the nation’s caustic leader.
so SAD !
Heard Adam Schiff from the House say Democracy is broken.
Boy are they going to be surprised when they find out maracas were rattles of divination, an oracle of the Brazilian Tupinamba Indians. I think their ignorant inadvertent heresy just made Baby Jeebus cry.
They don’t hold with that book learnin’.
Just another reason to be glad I don’t live in Idaho.
You know that can’t be easy for anyone who isn’t white and doesn’t think that white equates to god. Or anyone who is LGBTQ.
Shouldn’t ICE be raiding that school and deporting those clear Mexican immigrants?
It appears they can they can barely hold those itty-bitty maracas — ¿maracañitos? — much less a book.
Well…at least they’re not sleeping with their students (far as I know). Although with judgment this poor, all bets are off.
All of them should be FIRED!
I think a better alternative is for them to attend a course in Introduction to Latin American Studies and, maybe, learn rudimentary Spanish.
Oh, and write a book report.
I can’t wait to see how they turn the Jesus in a manger to Jose in a Caravan scene on their front lawn this Christmas. That’ll really put the Christ back into Christmas.
Wow. It’s like they are living in their own private Idaho.
Wait. So the teachers were on school time, doing something “fun” to build their internal sense of community. They had a contest to see which group could do the best job of embodying stereotypes about a particular country.
The USA group decided that the stereotypical America is a nonexistent wall with the slogan of a deeply unpopular president on it, flanked by a Statue of Liberty and an eagle.
In the meantime, the Mexico group went for colorful ponchos and maracas to embody their stereotype of Mexico.
The stereotypes are the problem, right? The posting of the images on the facebook page (where kids could see them!) was titanically stupid, but if I’m really generous, I can make an argument that these teachers MIGHT hate these stereotypes as much as I do (tho’ their big grins suggest otherwise) and that they MIGHT even be capable of articulating to students what exactly is the problem with having Trump’s fantasy wall symbolize America, or ponchos and maracas symbolize Mexico.
I’d like to be that generous and think what you said is true but I don’t. I think they used the idea of the stereotype as cover to get away with a little racist display. The stereotype part of the thing was a nice sugarcoating. See we’re teaching them about prejudice by being bigoted role models!
I thought this was going to be one of those “98% white area is super racist” stories. This is worse. Those poor kids. How much crap are they dealing with day to day when their teachers view them like that?
Woman dressed up as the statue of liberty + a border wall.
A teacher.
We are doomed
