Someone needs to ask him if this “mistake in judgement” is the information that would exonerate Kavanaugh and make Feinstein apologize. Teasing something for days and then when if fails miserably taking it back is not a judgment error, it may well have been a tactical error. The mistake in judgement was thinking this was going to work.

Whalen is brilliant. By now saying that he made a mistaken identity he proves that Ford did too, so he was right all along.

Classic Putinesque deza. They’ll fund both sides of an argument. The main thing is that there be an argument.

Logic would never have dictated in a million years that Republicans go with the Whelan plan to accuse some random guy (and Kavanaugh supporter!) of attempted rape.

It’s an essential element of Trumpism. This is his tactic, one that he uses several times a day. The ensuing debunking has no effect on his intended audience - the lie of the moment gets internalized immediately.

My husband just said that the guy could have been offered a rather nice chunk of change to go along with this. Sounds plausible.

In a criminal case, with an accused with money, the defendant might convene a focus group to try out defense theories to see how they work. There was no time for Kavanaugh and his supporters to do that so they floated it this way. It shows they are still developing a theory of defense. This potential defense did not work so they will need to come up with something else.
A good question for Kavanaugh when he testifies is his involvement in constructing this story of him being confused with a classmate, whether he provided the name of the person they tried to pin the assault on, the discussion of this within the White House and with Republican senators and their staff and what other potential defenses were discussed and considered.

First question to Kavanaugh is did you know about this theory before it was launched and why is it seeming to be a talking point among many operatives?

I don’t ever want to hear the question of why victims do not come forward. They are tried in the public mercilessly before they have a day in court when their accusation proves to be inconvenient for anybody who chooses to insert themselves. Dr. Ford shot this idiot down with a singular clarifying statement!

Republicans are so prone to let their true feeling out.

I can’t believe that Garrett is in on it. Was he going to admit doing it and open himself up to being charged with attempted rape? No way.

Methinks the FBI needs to investigate THIS. Could be a payoff or promise of one to the teacher, could be a few senators and Kavanaugh were privy to this bizarre false accusation tactic and approved it.

The veneer of respectability has all the strength and resilience of really cheap toilet paper.

I thought about that myself, but it is a hell of a price to pay in return. The sacrificial goat? They tend to get eaten alive. It would take a serious headcase to put himself in to that blender including his family, his job and reputation.

This is only the beginning. Look for more floaters rising in the bowl as Kavanaugh’s henchpeople continue to attack Dr. Ford!

Relying on the dictates of logic to govern the behavior of amoral, misogynistic, partisan hacks isn’t a percentage play.

Then we have to conclude he wasn’t in on it, don’t we? Bizarre.

This won’t stop him from being a “very serious person” and a go-to for the Washington sycophants known as the Press Corps.

It should, but it won’t. He will still be a Daddy figure.

Even the White House Stenographer Maggie H. was going along for the ride in the beginning.

I kind of doubt a middle school teacher is going to willingly be associated with the attempted rape of a minor. Unless the bribe moves him to a different career, perhaps in wingnut welfare.
