Ecuador should make that stinky fucker watch nothing but reruns of “The Apprentice” while he’s holed up in their embassy. In a week he’ll be begging for Sweden to reinstate those sexual assault charges and extradite him.
Free rent. Free electricity. Free AC and heat. Free food. Free laundry. Free Internet and TV. All he needs is a 55-gallon drum of Cheetos, a Rascal, an AR-15, and a World of Warcraft subscription and he’ll be just like your average Trump fan.
Bingo.
Correa hated (still hates, for that matter the US and giving Assange asylum let him stick it to the US government. The new president, Moreno, also isn’t a big fan of the US but is far more pragmatic (and reportedly less corrupt) than Correa, despite having been Correa’s VP.
You’re right that the big problem they have now is that they gave Assange citizenship, so they have a PR issue at home if they evict him. Oops.
This has gone on for years. He has been a very rude “guest” for all these years. I sincerely hope the embassy personnel decide to throw him out sooner rather than later. This mess can be laid at the feet of the former Ecuadorian President. He was a bit too much enthralled with the Russians.
Trump doesn’t want him released. Isn’t the US talking financial incentives to the new president in hope that Assange will continue to be their protected guest?
Is he going to die up in there?
Ecuador, if you want him to leave, just paint over the outside glass of his windows with something optically opaque (preferably black matte to increase temperature rise), and make sure you paint them shut while you’re at it. Then find a way to turn off the electricity and water. Make certain that any and all grocer supplies are provided to your main entrance. You might not enjoy it much, especially since he won’t be showering and nobody will be able to flush, but sooner or later he’s gonna dash. I guaranty. Why prolong the inevitable?
This is the fourth or fifth time over the last 24 months that a rumor has popped up out of nowhere asserting—without any evidence of any sort—that Assange’s expulsion from the embassy is “imminent.” If Ecuador had any intention of booting him, they’d have done it already. For the time being, the Ecuadorian government obviously believes that the benefits of keeping him there outweigh the disadvantages. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if some other government(s) were making it worth Ecuador’s while to put him up, but whatever the reason, he’s not going anywhere in the foreseeable unless something changes in the outside world in a big way.
