Discussion: Economy At Center Stage As Dems Prep For Flint Debate

Discussion for article #246966

Because, it’s the economy stupid with a major slice of BLM.

It may be a toss up on the economy but Sanders is going to be and has been thrashed on the black front.

Another Democratic debate scheduled at the worst possible time. Has anyone bothered to check what they’re up against? I for one will be watching the Series Finale of Downton Abbey at 9pm. Piss poor planning idiots!!

Is this debate one of those later added by pressure from the Sanders and O’Malley campaigns, or is part of the original six?

Probably added. Seems like a debate held in Flint is the du jour of Michigan politics these days before our primary. I’m glad they’re having it there, but unfortunately not many will be tuning in. They should have scheduled it for Monday night. How hard would that have been? The Series Finale to Downton Abbey is probably one of the biggest finales on regular TV since MASH.

Clinton has made it a point to frame the crisis in majority-black city in racial terms, saying it never would have taken so long to address the problem in a wealthy, white area.

Quelle surprise! Are we to understand that any poor, white residents are the unlucky, but unintentional, victims of a racially callous decision to change the city water source; or was this a callous, class decision, whose victims didn’t matter because they were poor, regardless of race?

I realize that most of those afflicted Flinters were both poor and black, muddling any distinction here. (For the GOP cost cutters, it could be a two-fer distinction without a difference.) How might candidate Obama “frame the crisis” were he faced with it?

The Faux town hall with Clinton and Sanders is tomorrow night, although that was very recently offered and added to entice Hillary to stop avoiding Faux.

I will continue to avoid FOX no matter what they broadcast.

Keep it simple. Democrats need to run on Pres.O economy. It’s the #1 economy in the world. Poor People need jobs not another training program.

Are you sure you have your priorities right?

It’s intentional, sadly.

Note the difference between this debate and the republican idiots.

The debates on our side have been civil, deeply intelligent, substantive policy discussions. Fully deserve to be called “debates.”

Something that happens on the other side – those on the stage shouting at and insulting each other, being confused about the math, bragging about their masculinity.

The media keeping calling theirs a “debate” is a massive disservice, false equivalency in earnest. Let’s start calling theirs a clowny shit-show that it is.

Why does Sen. Sanders yell all the time, can you see him giving a State of the Union speech? Why does he just yell about everything? He is talking about a shooting and he is yelling in answering a question from a father of a girl in a recent shooting. PLEASE, SEN. SANDERS, STOP YELLING.

Btw, Cruz had a rally here at the Delta Plex in W. Mi. today with Glenn Beck as the person introducing him, and only 600 people showed up. I don’t think he’ll do very well here come Tuesday.

Once again, the difference between the Democratic debates and the Republican ones couldn’t be clearer. Here were two mature adults, discussing their agreements and disagreements, their records, their proposals, their overall visions, their priorities, their leadership styles. All without descending into anything resembling the Republican cesspool-wrestling contests.

And once again, I just hope that the ratings for this Democratic debate were better than for previous ones this year. Because I cling to the belief that there is still a majority in this country who, if they saw both the adolescent poo-flinging of the Republican debates, and the intelligent debate on the Democratic side, will make the right choice.
