Discussion: Economy Adds TK Jobs In May, Unemployment Falls To TK Percent

Discussion for article #237159

Wow! That is a really TK jobs report.

But I thought the economy was getting better? Did the GOP sabotage finally catch up with the economy?

(My mistake. I thought this was low).

FOX Entertainment Morning Crews: “Apocalypse! Apocalypse, I tell ya!!”

Unemployment can go up a bit in a good economy because more people enter the work force looking for a job. If those people aren’t looking for a job, they don’t factor into the unemployment number. If they do, then they have an impact.

Obama is the worst socialist ever.

I was looking more at the paltry number of jobs added instead of the unemployment rate.

280,000 is a really good number.

True. This is actually positive news because those folks who re-entered the market must be feeling pretty confident about their prospects. Proof is always in the pudding, but this isn’t bad. I’ll be much more interested in the early fall numbers as those will include all the recent college and high school graduates as well.

It seems rather low to me, but it might also be that we’ve hit a slight plateau. I’ll take your word on it then.

Anything over 200K is considered pretty good. May’s number was well ahead of expectations.

Tidbit from from http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/jobs-growth-soars-280k-jobs-created-may

“All told, the U.S. has added 3.06 million jobs over the last 12 months. May was the 56th consecutive month of positive job growth – the best stretch since 1939 – and the 63rd consecutive month in which we’ve seen private-sector job growth, which is the longest on record.”

This is a very good payroll number (the consensus est. was 210,000). And economists are attributing the uptick in the headline unemployment number to heretofor discouraged people reentering the job market. And all this despite the jerb-killing Obamacare and the war on the jerb creators and teh gays getting married.

No, it’s a good number. Follow the BLS link and read the report, it’s the fifth best month in the last two years.
Also, you’ll find this:
“The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for March was revised from +85,000 to +119,000, and the change for April was revised from +223,000 to +221,000. With these revisions, employment gains in March and April combined were 32,000 more than previously reported. Over the past 3 months, job gains have averaged 207,000 per month.”

Okay…I rescind my initial statement. Thank you for clarifying that.

I’ve caught that from later discussion. My bad on that.

This is only the 2nd May we’ve gained more than 260,000 private-sector jobs since 1998.

Fun facts:

–Obamacare became law 63 months ago.
–Private-sector job growth has grown for 63 months straight

*Note: before Obamacare, we lost private-sector jobs in 23 of the previous 24 months.

Waiting patiently while the GOP unbuckles the straps on Jack Welch’s straight jacket so they can roll him out with a conspiracy theory.
